Variety are reporting that Doctor Who alum Matt Smith in final talks to join Jared Leto in “Morbius,” a film based on the Spider-Man villain of the same name. Details of who Smith would play are unknown at this time, other than it being a major role in the film.
The project is being helmed by Daniel Espinosa from a script penned by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing “Morbius” with Lucas Foster. Palak Patel will oversee the feature for Sony.
The Morbius character was created in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane for “The Amazing Spider-Man #101.” The character was a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with tragic results. He became afflicted with vampiric traits such as fangs and a thirst for blood — and wound up battling Spider-Man.
The character has appeared in different Marvel Comics over the years and had his own series in 1992, labeled “Morbius, the Living Vampire,” which had a 32-issue run through April of 1995.
Matt Smith has a lot of potential he was goodin the show about queen Elizabeth (yeah I watched it, what of it?). I think he can be good in the Morbius if he is directed well.
Waithold on a sec, A MORBIUS MOVIE?!? This is Sony isn't it.
I'm assuming this is a Sony movie, that doesn't really tie in to The MCU, or even Spidey films? My interest level drops dramatically if that is the case. Sony should have been patient, and tied Venom (and Venom's origin) in to Spidey, as it should be, and it would have paid off MASSIVELY- both for them, and for fans. If they tie this in, even a little, to the Spidey films, I may consider seeing it in theaters.I didn't love Matt Smith on Doctor Who, but I think a lot of that was the writing during his run (It went from being absolutely amazing with Eccleston and Tennant, to just-good and inconsistent after them), so I would be curious to see him in a major, non-Doctor role. I'm assuming Leto is Morbius?
He looks like a vampire already lol
Maybe he'll do better than Christopher Eccleston
The worst Joker ever? Easy pass. Still trying to forget he was in Suicide Squad.
I like both Matt Smith and Jared Leto...but Jared Leto does not mix well with comic properties. I do not have any hopes for this film.
