Ever since news broke
several weeks ago about actor Jamie Foxx reprising his role as Electro for Sony's Spider-Man 3 movie that stars Tom Holland, rumors have been rampant that previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield would also be joining the cast.
According to
Entertainment Tonight, Sony is neither confirming or denying that possibility. According to them a Sony rep told them the following when asked about Garfield and Maquire:
“Those rumoured castings are not confirmed,”
Just
last week it was confirmed that
Benedict Cumberbatch would be reprising his role as
Doctor Strange for the movie giving more credence the plot of the film will have some kind of Multiverse theme. After all the next Doctor Strange movie is titled
Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.
Since Sony isn't flat out denying the
Tobey Maguire &
Andrew Garfield casting rumors, that likely means that things are still being negotiated between the studio and the two actors, or it's a done deal and the studio is waiting for the right time to make the official announcement. If things are still in the negotiating stage, that could certainly mean things don't work out and one or both of the actors could walk away from the negotiating table. We will just have to wait and see.
So utterly pointless. The whole thing is really putting me off from the Spider-Man movies altogether. Its gonna just end up ruining things till the franchise implodes again, another actor comes in, another Spider-Man franchise....the upside there will be a "back to basics" formula, tossing out the silliness of Peter Parker having to be "mentored" by Stark, bringing in a supporting cast that reflects what the books had, etc. Really its starting to get a little wash/rinse/repeat and I'm not entertained by this...

Exactly, if they want to use any previous Spidey, do it in Into the Spider-verse 2. there's no need for a live-action version

And so it begins, the ugly side of the "Multiverse" story-line. Soon EVERY franchise is gonna have to put up with "Such-and-Such from an Earlier Version of the Franchise is Going to Appear!" rumors.

This. This exactly.

I'm happy with how things are going and I mean, it would be a cool concept, but with the MCU as big as it is right now, I don't think it needs to expand THAT much into the multiverse.
I agree 100%. People have been clamoring for Tobey, Andrew, even Miles to join this movie, but that really feels like it would take away from the evolution of Hollands character. Im all for Miles joining later down the line, but for now I just want to see Toms Peter being Spidey in a normal Spidey movie. Its too early for stuff like that.

Hopefully Tom is telling the truth and we wouldn't be seeing Into the Live-Action Spider-verse
See, Im torn. On the one hand that seems like a big thing for him to not know about, but on the other hand, if they are in it they would have undoubtedly not told him cause spoiler reasons lol. My guess is they are in it, but not more than a cameo. Pretty sure theyve already said that Molina and Foxx wont be in it for long either.
