Director Destin Daniel Cretton, known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is currently in discussions to take the helm of Spider-Man 4. This upcoming film will feature Tom Holland and is a collaborative effort between Sony and Marvel Studios, which Disney owns.
Cretton is the fourth individual to assume the director role for a Spider-Man solo film. The previous three films featuring Tom Holland were directed by Jon Watts, while Marc Webb was responsible for the two Amazing Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield. Additionally, Sam Raimi directed the trilogy that showcased Tobey Maguire in the titular role.
Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers have returned to handle the script, with Marvel's Kevin Feige and former Sony executive Amy Pascal serving as producers. According to sources, Spider-Man 4 is progressing rapidly and is set to begin filming early next year.

That would've been so cool to see.

I liked Shang Chi. I thought it was good. Was it in the MCU's top ten? No. I definitely wouldn't rank it in the lower third of the movies, either. It's probably near the middle for me. With 34 movies in the MCU now, something can still be good and near the middle at the same time.

But did Destin really do that good a job?! Was Shang Chi really all that good?!
Honestly Shang Chi benefited very much by how terrible most of the Marvel projects were going at that time. In contrast Shang Chi was not a bad movie. In fact it was an okay movie. By far the best of what was being put out at the time. It's still probably in the lower third tier of Marvel projects but for the time it was just the shot in the arm Marvel fans needed to keep them interested and give them a little hope for the future. Really if you reflect on it the truth about how good a movie is is largely based on if you would ever watch it again. Iron Man, Captain America, Avengers. I've watched them all many times over. And if I come across them while channel surfing I generally leave them on if only in the background. But Shang Chi? Saw it once. Enjoyed it well enough. Never had a desire to watch it again. I'd rather watch reruns of Big Bang Theory. That's really at the very edge of my benchmark.
Cretton did good enough job on Shang Chi, it's nothing crazy good but who knows maybe he will have more of a chance to show his talent on this one, it also seems like this gonna be kinda Multiverse movie with Venom of some kind and Black Cat and not that grounded street level Kingpin Daredevil one, there's also serious rumors that secret scene Holland filmed and posted about on his instagram is for Venom movie after credit teaser.
This should be the movie where Ned becomes Hobgoblin, and Mary J. Watson from the Multiverse shows up, but so does Gwen Stacy and Felicia Hardy and it becomes a hideous love triangle, and Then Ben Reilly shows up and reveals a sinister plot by the Jackal.

I just want this to be a grounded Spiderman story. No more multiverse or Iron Man filled plots.
