"I honestly don't know what goes on behind closed doors in the bookkeeping sessions at Marvel, but I do know that they're obsessed with him in that role," Reynolds says of Tatum's card-slinging Cajun mutant on Entertainment Weekly's Awardist podcast. "It's kind of like the same situation I went through. Once you show that it works well, that's really what they need. Sometimes they just need to see it in action."
"And Channing is so singular in how he plays that character," Reynolds continues, "but also he's so beautiful physically, the way he moves and the way he can pick up steps."
This Like totally this Like super totally this < stabs the sky pointing up>Channing, for all the long wait we had........was a prop. Just there for show--straight-up fan service. The story wasn't about him, his presence was superficial to the movie as a whole--they could have plugged in any of 100+ other characters and it would have made no difference. So anything else with him going forward is just fluff, from where I sit. We've seen him.........he did stuff.......what more would be bring to the role or a story?Wesley as ( an older) Blade was cool and brings about 50 lbs ( by weight, not by volume) of charisma to screen than Channing does. I don't know, even though, logistically, they did about the same amount in the movie, Blade just felt more like there was another story ( somehow) left with him.
really? I feel like I figured as soon as Channing as Gambit appeared on screen it was going to be a real "flavour of the times" thing, everyone was gonna get that fever, but to say obsessed feels like a bit of a fakey fakey stretch, I mean sure it was fun, but it felt more silly and fun then anything to me, and I didn't personally leave the theatre saying "I hope he gets a movie now" I don't even think he should play Gambit in the MCU. NGL. I think they need to just leave it as a fun little novelty and be over it.
Now Welsley snipes returning for 1 last blade movie...I can get with that, can Marvel be obsessed with that idea?

I'll allow it, LOL!

If Marvel Studios want the X-Men to help lead the next 10 years of Marvel movies I don't think having Tatum is a good idea. I feel he's just too old at this point in his career to be able to play the part that long.
I thought his appearance in the movie was something similar to John Krasinski's Mr Fantastic cameo. A one off deal just for fan service. That being said, I don't have that big of a problem with him being Gambit from now on, but to get his own movie...don't really see why. Just put him in the X Men movies.
Right. That's what Gambit fans want to see..... more of Channing Tatum's "fat-head" Gambit.
Gambit was the worst part of the movie.
I really hope not. Tatum was great as a joke, but I personally can't see him as Gambit seriously.
I mean, I guess we'll see
Idc what others say I thought his performance as gambit was great. And in a longer format where he can get substantial screen time where we can actually see the fleshed out character that would be Tatum gambit, so it's crazy to negatively judge a whole character based on what a couple mintues and a few lines of dialog and one that was used as comic relief. And the costume imo was perfect. So i think when given mc energy his gambit would be phenomenal.

A heist based film, fullmof thieves and assassins? Yes please! (Though maybe without that silly headsock...)
No headsock, no Gambit! I personally don't think a solo movie is needed, but I would like to see him in an X Men movie.
