Marvel has announced a new X-Men and Avengers crossover event called
Avengers & X-Men: AXIS which will be written by Rick Remender and will consist of 9-issues released over the course of 3 months starting in October. The story crosses over into several Marvel titles including
Iron Man, Magneto, Loki: Agent of Asgard and Remender's own
Captain America and
Uncanny Avengers comics. AXIS is told over a trio of three-issue acts that lead to changes for the heroes that will be "lasting and natural and additive,'' Remender says.
The story will focus on Red Skull who if you have been reading Uncanny Avengers knows has obtained the powers of Professor X after removing the brain of the now dead X-Men founder and incorporating it for his own deadly use. I only mention this because it appears that in the
AXIS story, the powerful
Onslaught character who was a conglomerate of
Xavier's and
Magneto's powers will be returning with a
Red Skull twist.
The story will also feature such characters as
Captain America, Thor, Luke Cage, Storm, Deadpool, the Inhumans' Medusa, Havok, Kid Apocalypse and
Quentin Quire on the
Avengers/X-Men side. For villains expect to see
Doctor Doom, Enchantress, Absorbing Man, Carnage, Hobgoblin and
Sabretooth.
Iron Man will also be playing a major role in the story and is in for a status-quo change, Remender says.
"The Red Skull has seen things that Tony Stark is capable of, and seen value in them."
