Knull Returns In Venom #250
by Jay Cochran
June 17, 2025
To celebrate 616 Day, Marvel Comics is thrilled to announce that the landmark 250th issue of VENOM hits stands in October and features the return of KNULL, Venom’s greatest enemy!
Written by current All-New Venom scribe Al Ewing and drawn by superstar artist Terry Dodson, VENOM #250 kicks off a major symbiote saga where Knull, the god of symbiotes, seeks revenge on Venom, who is currently bonded to Mary Jane Watson! Debuting in Donny Cates and Ryan Stegman’s seminal run of Venom back in 2018, Knull immediately took a spot amongst Marvel’s most feared and legendary supervillains, going on to headline his own crossover event as the KING IN BLACK and even making his big screen debut in last year’s Venom: The Last Dance. Now, he’s back with a vengeance, and Mary Jane has no idea what’s in store!
The giant-sized celebratory issue will also feature a tale by Eddie Brock: Carnage writer Charles Soule and All-New Venom artist Carlos Gomez set during Eddie Brock’s time as Venom. Plus, following the issue, ALL-NEW VENOM remains VENOM once more, continuing on with the legacy numbering with VENOM #251!
THE RETURN OF KNULL!
Mary Jane Watson is finally in the swing of things as the new Venom host, using their powers in all-new ways to be the hero the symbiote never knew it could be! But as she cleans up the streets of New York, she remains blissfully unaware of the strands of darkness leading off into the darkness of the void. Knull, the creator of all symbiotes, was killed by Eddie Brock. Nothing could bring him back… but Knull rules over nothing. Knull has returned, and word is racing across the stars to the one who took him down before to prepare to do it again. Will Venom be ready?
On Knull’s appeal, Ewing said, "When Donny and Ryan brought Knull into being, they created the first new villain in a while with what I'd call 'big villain juice.' He's visually arresting, you know what he wants in one sentence, you can't talk him out of it, he's powerful enough to hold down a crossover... and he was given the wonderful luxury of going away for a while. When a big bad is allowed to lay fallow and drift into memory, what's remembered is all the things readers liked about them - and that's when it's time for a comeback. The final ingredient in a good villain - they may be down, but they're never out."

So this was what all the hype was about? Marvel writer dusts off another old enemy and does another wash/rinse/repeat story because they can't think of anything new. Wow. Shocker. At this point it would be more shocking if they were able to come up with a new concept. Yes I know MJ is Venom this time around but it's still the same symbiote. How different can it really be? Time will tell I guess but it sounds like more of the same old Marvel formula for lack of creativity.
Wow, didn't know Stephen Platt was still involved with comics (and drawing like David Finch now apparently).

Of all the dumb things Marvel has done over the years this is not one of them. This kind of makes sense. After all these years of watching all these close people around her having alter egos both heroes and villains it's just common sense that she would know how to live that Superhero life. And she's already a beloved character and they didn't try to force some so called New Character on us. Heck at this point as hard as they're forcing her I'm just glad it didn't turn out to be Kamala Kahn. But then again where would she find the time while changing X-Men history? But as Marvel Jesus I guess she could figure out how to be in multiple places at once. But this situation just makes sense that it wasn't anyone else that already had formidable powers like Luke Cage. MJ doesn't have any powers currently so the suit gives her powers and with her experience as Jackpot she knows how to use them. Not a bad reveal. I do hope MJ finally gets the respect she deserves and this is a long standing deal.
I feel so behind and not hip, I have not read anything new in soooo long, 2020 to be exact is when I dropped out of the new book collecting, I got no clue what's going on with Venom, but he has a new host?
since we are playing the "who is it?" game, I wanna say the yellow makes me believe it's Luke Cage, which actually seems kinda cool, I vote Luke.
I really liked Zebs run, and yes I know there are lots of peoples online that disagree.

Yes, I do. Even though I like Zeb Wells as a person.

Dylan clearly is a smart kid.

OMG. I can't believe I missed this. The whole gold color scheme threw me off from the start making me think it was Luke Cage but I just realized who it is. And I say this both in jest and also in great seriousness. In jest that it's totally ridiculous and meant to create controversy and in all seriousness that it's totally possible because it is what's become the typical Marvel way. The new Venom is clearly Colleen Wing. Which will not be very controversial at all because literally anything Marvel does at this time surprises no one anywhere at any time at all anymore. And of course she will eventually be revealed to be a clone or something created by the Mind Stone when they need to backtrack and explain it all away at a later time.
