The Age Of Apocalypse X-Men Confront The Original X-Men

This Wednesday—the AGE OF APOCALYPSE returns! Celebrating the 30th anniversary of the revolutionary ‘90s X-crossover, X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE will be six-part saga written by legendary writer Jeph Loeb, one of the creators behind the original event, and drawn by Eisner nominated artist Simone Di Meo. Mirroring the original, X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE begins in X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE ALPHA #1, continues through X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE #1-4, and concludes in X-MEN OF APOCALHPA OMEGA #1. Today, fans can learn about X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE #2, hitting stands in December.

Taking place directly in the aftermath of Age of Apocalypse, X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE brings this iconic dystopia’s team of X-Men to the main Marvel Universe on a mission to ensure their reality’s survival! Their desperate quest puts them in conflict with their classic counterparts as well as fellow Age of Apocalypse escapee Nate Grey, A.K.A. X-Man, but their mission can only be accomplished by journeying to the team’s very foundation… It’s a trip to the Silver Age as these hard-edged and war-ravaged X-Men come face-to-face with the Strangest Teens of All—the Original X-Men!

See them square off in Di Meo’s main cover for X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE #2. Variant covers for the issue include pieces by acclaimed artists Arthur Adams, Russell Dauterman, Stephen Platt, and Joshua “Sway” Swaby. Plus, Joe Madureira, another creator behind the original event, continues his series of variant covers with a stunning depiction of his co-creation Blink, one of the Age of Apocalypse’s biggest breakout heroes! Celebrating the influential artist’s return to the franchise for the first time in decades, Madureira’s covers will also come available as alternate virgin versions.

BACK TO WHERE IT BEGAN!

The X-Men of Apocalypse have gone back to where it all began in their quest to restore their history! But before they can, it means mixing it up with the original X-Men!

“It’s so much fun revisiting the first issue of the X-Men from 1963,” Loeb shared. “Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were at the height of their powers creating these legendary characters that are still dominate pop culture today! I love the original cast—young and full of hope—and that's what makes going up against the X-Men of Apocalypse so astonishing. The XoA team only knows a world of war and death while at this point the O.G. X-Men barely have had any experience! Whatever happens -- this one counts!”

Check out the new covers and pick up X-MEN OF APOCALYPSE ALPHA #1 at your local comic shop next week.

Wow that Splatt cover is pretty bad.

Yes I will buy this, and yes I will pick up the Joe Mad covers.

Why? Because I'm a sucker.

But at least the covers will be pretty when I thumb past them in my collection, probably never to be read again.

Wow, this gets worse sounding by the minute. I loved the AOA but I'll be skipping this

Dang, was hoping he was back for sequential work.

Thank you Marvel for giving Blink her original design back. I have hated Saladin Ahmad's Janelle Monae redesign and I am sure I am not the only one.

Ahhh. So that is why they released aoa Gambit in ML

Almost surprised there wasn't another AOA wave given the ML love of anniversaries

It really has turned to garbage hasn't it?

I just can't. Marvel comics after Quesada era has been a mostly bucket of mess. DC hasn't been much better. The indie stuff has been nailing it
