Deadline reports that ABC has ordered a pilot for a live-action series based on the S.H.I.E.L.D (Strategic Hazard Intervention Espionage Logistics Directorate or Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) organization from Avengers writer-director Joss Whedon.
The series will be written by Joss Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen. The pilot episode will likely be directed by Joss as well. No word on who will be starring in the series or if this series will some how connect with the Marvel movie universe in which the director of S.H.I.E.L.D is lead by Nick Fury who is played by actor Samuel L. Jackson. In the movies, Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D are the ones who recruit Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and Hulk to form the Avengers.
Deadline also reports that Marvel has a few other projects in the works at ABC Studios, including a Hulk series.
