September 25, 2020
Variety has learned that Samuel L. Jackson will reprise the role of Nick Fury in a new Marvel series currently in development at Disney Plus.

The exact plot details are being kept under wraps but sources are saying that Jackson is attached to star with Kyle Bradstreet attached to write and executive produce. Marvel Studios will produce.

Jackson has portrayed Fury, the monocular head of the clandestine government agency S.H.I.E.L.D, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going back to the first “Iron Man” film in 2008. He has appeared in multiple films, most recently in “Spider-Man: Far from Home,” “Avengers: Endgame,” and “Captain Marvel.” He also played the character in two episodes of the ABC series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

Bradstreet is credited with being a writer and executive producer on USA Network series “Mr. Robot.” His other credits include “Borgia,” “Berlin Station,” and “Copper.”

I never understood how a SHIELD show could be made without Fury.

Because that was the entire concept from the beginning. You had the movies with Nick Fury and the Avengers fighting super-villains like Ultron and Thanos, then you had the Agents of SHIELD exploring a world where things like that can happen.

It was meant to be CSI or NCIS in a world where Norse Gods, Super Soldiers, and Gamma fueled rage monsters are part of day-to-day life. I thought that was a brilliant concept, and one of the few untrod paths in superhero entertainment. It amazes me that some people still don't get that.

Then again, we live in a world where people flock in droves to see the Big Thorbowski and Star-Lord challenging Ronan the Accuser to break dance.

Well to be honest, the Whole Hydra been infiltrated and manipulated by Hydra was straight from the comics

Yeah but I'm saying either medium could explore it.

Will this be Nick Fury under SWORD? i think this would be the next iteration as SHIELD as a story plot has come and gone. Time to go intergalactic!

Probably, Far From Home already has shown Fury working with the Skrulls and S.W.O.R.D is turning up in WandaVision but it also could be possible Fury is doing his own think separate from S.W.O.R.D

I never understood how a SHIELD show could be made without Fury.I get that Sam Jackson's salary pretty much wipes out the budget, but they could've got around that by placing the show (at least some episodes) in an earlier time frame, and use a younger version of Fury played by another actor. SHIELD should have always focused more on the espionage side of things, investigating super heroes to determine what, if any, threat they posed. Also the biggest issue I have is the whole infiltrated-by-Hydra-from-the-beginning story line. Yeah, its a bombshell, yeah it shakes things to the core- but how plausible is it? How exactly was everything that SHIELD accomplished, actuallyjust doing Hydra's bidding? How did these top spies not figure this out before?

They kept the showon life supportfor way longer than they should have. Outside of May and Coulson (and maybe Fitzsimmons), none of the cast grabbed my attention. Good riddance.

At any rate I wonder if we'll see Valentina, Gabe or Dum Dum.

Sounds interesting maybe some of the Agents of SHIELD characters might appear as guest stars

I agree, but even then I think a Nick Fury series sounds like one of the best show ideas, this should have been a show from the get go, this should have just been Agents of Shield.

I really liked Agents of SHIELD, but this sounds like they'd be going for a more grounded, gritty, and less fantastical spy-thriller show, which I very much welcome.
