For what its worth, no series has a single director and few have a single writer. Daredevil had dozens of writers over 3 seasons. Having too many writers wasn't really the issue with Iron Fist Season 1. The issue was that they didn't have a showrunner with a core concept to start with, and they were also on a massive deadline to get it done, because they were desperate to push into Defenders.

I have a friend who worked on season 1 (crew member, not a writer or anything) and he said it was one of those productions where every was constantly being figured out while they were filming. Which pretty much backs up Finns story about never having time to prepare for the fights. As doesthe fact that season 2 was FAR better in both writing and choreography.

Exactly. Yes all shows have several writers/directors but even the longest standing shows tend to keep a pretty consistent core group or at least a senior director/showrunner to keep things gelling throughout a season. Of course even Daredevil Born Again had several of both and there were a few episodes where it was very apparent and it felt like the general direction of the show was going to fall off the rails but they brought it all together nicely at the end. But Iron Fist was a complete train wreck from the start. I forced myself not to hate it because DD was so good and I was just excited to see IF get some kind of recognition but yeah it had that feel like no one really knew where it was going and they were just making it up on the fly. Kind of like the last two Star Wars sequels. I know IF came out first but now in retrospect that's exactly what IF felt like at the time.

It all started with the miscast of Jones who honestly only got the job because of his part on GOT. Then they let him go with that raggedy looking hermit beard. Not saying anything about his looks but some people are facial hair people and some are not. And much like our friend Pedro Pascal he actually levels up 10x when the facial hair comes off. Then of course it looked like he didn't train or exercise even a little bit too look the part. Again not a knock on his look but his ability to portray the look of a character who should be lean and ripped kind of like Bruce Lee. Especially if you're going to walk around a large part of the series with your shirt unbuttoned to your belly button to show off your sweet ink. I'm half convinced they didn't even go through the audition phase. They were just like "Of course were going to cast him. He's Loras from GOT. Not prep necessary. We'll just let him roll out of bed and do it cold and on the fly." Then Joy and Davos and pretty much everyone was just off. Even the beautiful and talented Alice Eve did not fly as Typhoid Mary. It was just boring. BTW does anyone else think she would have been a great Captain Marvel?

And yes if what your friend is saying is true. And why would it not be? It totally tracks on how the show felt as a whole. Just not coherent or cohesive and a jumbled mess. You literally didn't know what you were going to be tuning into from one show to the next. It was a total trash heap. Honestly I think it might have worked better as a Power Man & Iron Fist buddy dramedy. Colter was spot on and I think with his help he could have made Jones look good. And for the love of Pete why was DD the only one who got a costume? I know they didn't want to go fully 70's retro but they could have at least done this.

Literally everyone cast in the Iron Fist show was miscast. Except for Jessica Henwick who was aces as Colleen Wing. Ant the writing seemed like some AI garbage at a time when that wasn't even a thing yet. I attribute that to that silly little project of having 50 different writers and 51 different directors on a 9 episode show and trying to make it cohesive. Either have one director or group of directors and multiple writers or vice versa and cast the people that are the right fit for the roles and concentrate on making a good show. Bring back the characters themselves and bring back Henwick but if Disney doesn't recast Danny Rand and pretty much everyone else they are out of their mind. I promise the amount of people that would be upset if they didn't bring Finn Jones back would be in the fives if not the ones.

The word was from the stunt coordinator that he didn't put in any time training. Compared to Jessica Henwick's fight scenes and his, that looks to be true. Nevertheless I agree that the writing was deplorable. Still, he was a bad choice for casting. The puny build, the ridiculous beard....no resemblance at all to Iron Fist.

All that aside....I would still love to see Krysten Ritter make a showing. And its way past time we got some El Aguila!

I was hoping she'd appear. Loved her character. Hopefully Luke and Danny show up as well, the first season of Iron Fist was not great but his interactions with Luke Cage in that one episode were really fun.

I too am glad to hear Ritter is showing up. But you know, I have to wonder what their plans are for Jacques Duquesne, the Swordsman? He debuts in Hawkeye, but unlike the comics has no connection to Barton. In Daredevil, he's a masked vigilante, but ends up in Kingpin's dungeon. With Tony Dalton playing, I have to believe they have more of a role for him in the next season....

I love this news, happy to hear Krysten Ritter is back as Jessica, Just my opinion but I loved her in the role, and I loved every season of J.J.

AndyL - 2025-05-14 @ 12:08 pm

Glad to see JJ returning as a character but I've said this many times and in many other platforms and I seem to be in the minority but I just don't like Krysten Ritter as JJ. Love her as an actor. Love her in other roles but she's just not convincing as JJ. Just to slight and waify IMO. And to address the argument of who I think would be better in the role which always comes up. Just use Hasbro's favorite research source and Google Melissa Barrera in Leather Jacket.

muse isn't dead. they literally said he is still on the lose.

Anyway, I'm glad Jess is coming back. Maybe in the few years that they have been gone, Danielle was born.

He's dead. I don't think I would've missed that. And yes exciting to see Jessica Jones again.

Weird, as that runs counter to what Finn Jones himself has said about the process, that he wasn't given proper time to get into shape or train adequately before the filming began, and that due to the harsh nature of the filming schedule, he only had approximately 15 minutes to train for a fight scene before actually filming them, which according to him are some of the many reasons he would like to return to the character at some point in the future, to prove that certain things weren't his fault.

The shows stunt coordinator has said some rather negative things about Finn, but who knows who is really telling the truth here? I mean if you look at more recent photos of Finn, he's bulked up significantly since shooting the Netflix shows, it seems hard to believe that he was simply too lazy to do it at the time.

I do know the goofy beard wouldn't have been up to him either I don't believe, as things like the actors hair/facial hair and overall appearance are usually decided by the show runners, not the actors.

There's no denying Jessica Henwick definitely had the stronger fight scenes, which if you understand all of the things that go into the production of these shows, and some of the arguably poor decisions being made by Marvel and Disney to push certain agendas forward, it makes me at least consider the possiblity that Finn's Danny Rand was perhaps being subtlety sabotaged to make Henwick's Colleen Wing taking over as the new Iron Fist be more palatable to fans of the Iron Fist character...

I'm also definitely glad to have Krysten Ritter back as Jessica Jones, especially if the writing for her character is better than it was for seasons 2&3 of her show.

I would be honestly kinda shocked if all of the defenders didn't at least make a cameo towards the end of season two of Daredevil born again.

The version of Muse from the first season of Daredevil born again is definitely dead. Despite this, Muse will be returning in season 2 in some capacity. There are photos from the filming of season 2 that confirm this.
