2007 Hasbro
Marvel Legends Annihilus Series
Planet Hulk
MSRP: $9.99
BAF Piece: Head & Collar
An unlikely choice and 90% repaint from an older figure, but for what it is, let's see how Planet Hulk scores.
I love the inclusion of a Planet Hulk. It's nice to get a figure this current when I still care. If a Planet Hulk figure took another few years to come out I don't know if too many people would care anymore. Who knows, maybe we will get a line specific to that year's giant crossover (i.e. Civil War), I personally, wouldn't mind that at all. Yes, they are reusing the entire body from
War Hulk from
The Incredible Hulk line in 2004 (more on that below).
Sculpt / Design
I think reusing the
War Hulk body is a good choice, I don't feel cheated by Hasbro on this as some have expressed being that they have done a great job with what it is. Except for the silver arm. First of all, Hasbro goofed and shipped a bunch of Planet Hulks out there with a green arm instead of a silver arm. Secondly, there needs to be lines sculpted horizontally across the silver arm as depicted in the comic and their are not. They got lazy on that one. I don't know what artist they were following on the head sculpt but as it is, the details are awesome, there are so many intricate bumps, lines, creases, hair strands and more all over Planet Hulk's head, it's amazing they were able to fit as much detail there as they did. The pants could have always used more detail. They are too smooth and perfect when compared to the whole rest of the body which is gritty and finely detailed throughout.

Paint / Color
Silver Arm vs. Green Arm: It's interesting, the mistaken green-armed hulk's arm is cast in green with a green peg in the elbow and a green disc in the shoulder while the silver-armed hulk's arm is cast in silver also including peg and disc with the exception of wrist and hand. The green arm has air sprayed details painted to match the rest of the body while the silver does not have any paint applied to it. It's just peculiar for what seems to be a factory error. With that, the silver arm should have had some detail sprayed into it to give it dimension like the green one has. On closer inspection the green armed Hulk's entire body including pants have heavier amounts of dark air sprayed spots for detail and dimension than the silver armed Hulk. Both figures have a nice black wash applied to the finger and toe nails really bringing the hands and feet to life. The face, hair and eyes are all painted accurately and cleanly. The pants are airbrushed with a darker brown to add dimension, which saves them of their too clean and smooth sculpt.

Articulation
Wow, Planet Hulk ranks in with 37 POA (Points of Articulation). This is the most by far of all of the figures included in Hasbro's first wave of Marvel Legends figures, the Annihilus Series. I guess it just goes to show that Hasbro
is limiting the POA on Marvel Legends figures. Let's breakdown Planet Hulk's POA then: ball joint head for up and down and rotating motions(2); ball joint shoulders(4); upper bicep swivel(2); elbow hinge (2); wrist swivel(2); palm hinge(2); thumb hinge(2); index finger hinge(2); three finger hinge(2); ball joint mid-torso(2); waist swivel(1); ball joint hips(4); upper thigh swivel(2); knee hinge(2); ball joint ankles(4); toe hinge(2). From such a big, bulky heavy figure what more could you want or need?

Accessories
Planet Hulk comes equipped with a shield, shoulder guard and helmet. All pieces are accurately and finely detailed to what we have seen in the comics. Really, all three pieces are just immaculate in sculpt, every single bit of them are absolutely covered in bumps, scrapes, cuts, dents gashes, etc. I love the choice of color, the ever so slightly iridescent bronze brings out realism but they still could have benefited from a dark wash to give bring out even more life. A weapon like a spear would have been a nice add to the accessories here. Planet Hulk comes equipped with Annihilus' head and collar which will be reviewed in Annihilus' own review.
Note: It seems there is a running change on Annihilus' costume color and the green arm Hulk came with a pink collar for Annihilus while the silver armed Hulk came with a purple collar for Annihilus.

Value
I don't always have value in my reviews, but for Hasbro's Marvel Legends, Planet Hulk is a significant value if nothing else than for sheer volume of the plastic used inside the packaging between figure, accessories and BAF piece. Naturally the largest figure will come with the smallest BAF piece, but hey, it's there isn't it? Planet Hulk's size and mass is as big as two Ultimate Iron Man's or three Emma Frosts,
plus you are getting three high quality accessories not to mention a beautiful new card back with a profile and stats. The only thing that could possibly bring this category down from a perfect score is if we have already been offered 90% of the body, oh wait, we have.

Planet Hulk is undeniably a solid figure all around and a good value. The inclusion of such new and current figures is something we haven't been used to with ToyBiz producing these figures but, Hasbro behind the wheel, it's a whole new game. So far in the first two Marvel Legends lines we have a spot for a movie figure and an ultimate figure as well as all of the rest of the regular Earth 616 Marvel Universe figures old and new. It is also undeniable that we are looking at a running change in Hasbro's production already in their first wave of Marvel Legends figures and it is disheartening if not irritating to us collectors.
