When we first broke the news that Hasbro was going to make an actual Avengers Quinjet toy for their 3.75” Avengers line, we like many fans were excited and hopeful. Then the first images of the toy where shown, and some expressed disappointment because of lack of space to hold figures. We also shared some of these concerns but wanted to check out the toy firsthand to see if the concerns were warranted or not. Read on to find out what we thought.
Packaging - The vehicle comes in a box with box art showing off the toy on the front. In the left corner, the core characters from the movie are displayed as on all the Avengers related products. In the bottom right corner, a small window displays the Iron Man figure included with the toy. On the back is a picture of the toy showing off all its action features as well as a small description of the jet in the bottom right corner. The packaging is pretty basic and generic, but it gets the job done of showing you what the toy is. When you open the box, you pull out a cardboard insert that has the pieces of the toy tied to it with soft tie bands. Some assembly of the toy is required but nothing too technical. Just some snapping of pieces in place.
Appearance - Hasbro has done a pretty good job of nailing the overall look and feel of the Avengers Quinjet as it appears in the movie - at least from what I have seen in the trailers of it. The toy uses some basic dark grey colors with a lighter silver coat of paint on the canopy and thrusters on the back. Along with the greys, they have added some yellow metallic-looking striping on the wings to give it some contrast. I’m not sure if this yellow detailing is actually seen on the one in the movie, but honestly I think it works well here. The toy also comes with a decal sheet. I am not a fan of having to apply decals on a toy, but I know some collectors do like this. Most the decals are pretty simple to apply here without needing any tweezers or anything.
Features - This toy actually has quite a few features, which for the most part add to the play and display value.
In the front is a cockpit with a yellow-tinted window canopy that opens up. You can fit one normal sized 3.75” figure here comfortably. No issues with closing the canopy with a figure sitting inside. The inside cockpit has basic displays and little joystick type deals on the sides for your figure to grab on to.
In the back, a door opens to reveal another seat. Basically you can fit one other figure back here as long as it is seated. You can’t stand figures back in this area.
On the bottom, the toy has working landing gear you can pull out or push in. On the side there is a little figure holder you can pull out so you can make it look like a flying character like Iron Man is flying next to the aircraft. On the top, a foot peg on each side of the main wing lets you pretend someone like Thor lands there to hitch a ride, like we see in one of the movie trailers.
You can put the aircraft in “Hyper” Attack Mode by sliding the back wings back. This causes a missile launcher to pop up on the top of the ship which can fire two missiles. The launcher, once deployed, can swivel in a circular motion so you can fire it facing forward, backward, left or right. You push a button on the launcher to fire the missiles which will fly across the room.
When you go into “Hyper” mode, hover jets on the main wings are revealed. You can also flip the ends of the main wings up making it look like a VTOL craft, you know for taking off and landing on things like Hellicarriers.
Accessories - The vehicle comes with an Iron Man figure. This figure is horrid with next to no articulation. Not even knee or elbow joints. It does sit in the Quinjet fine but otherwise this figure is pretty much worthless. Honestly I would have rather seen Hasbro just cut a few extra dollars off the toy and leave out the figure if this is the best they can offer.
Fun Factor - I agree it would have been nice if they had been able to make the cockpit hold more than one figure, but overall I still think this is a pretty nice looking toy that has lots of fun features. Also when you look at it, the toy actually can accommodate 5 figures. For a cost of around $30, I think it’s a pretty good buy and worth checking out if you have been wanting vehicles for your 3.75” Marvel figures. I will point out the peg holes on the regular Marvel Universe figures seem to be a little smaller than those on the Avengers movie figures so they don’t stand very well on this toy. The Marvel Universe figures do fit fine in the cockpit.
