Marvel Universe Wave 19 Scarlet Witch

Marvel Universe Wave 19 Scarlet Witch

Was Hasbro able to accomplish something Toy Biz could not? Unlike the Marvel Legends line (Toy Biz), Hasbro’s Marvel Universe line promises a good plastic representation of the Scarlet Witch character. Check out our latest review to find out if it delivers. You can check out hi-res images for this figure below in our GALLERY.

Packaging - Like the other figures in Hasbro’s 19th wave of 3.75” Marvel Universe figures, the art work on the packaging was done by Marvel Comics artist Mike Deodato Jr.. The front of the card features artwork of Scarlet Witch in a very dynamic battle pose as she is about to cast one of her Hex spells on someone. The figure itself is clearly featured in the plastic blister bubble, and a little cardboard cover of a comic (I am not recognizing it right off the bat) is next to the figure. The cover features both Scarlet Witch and her brother Quicksilver.

The back of the cardback shows a picture of the figure as well as a brief bio of the character and other figures being released in the wave. Towards the bottom is an image of Modok who this time says “ Conquer Them All! By collecting them. Each sold separately.”

The Marvel Universe packaging overall is fairly generic but the character artwork makes it interesting enough to be eye-catching and even a little collectible.

Sculpt - Hasbro has done a pretty good job capturing the likeness of the Scarlet Witch. Her face is accurate to the character unlike the Marvel Legends version which had a face that looked like it had been hit with a frying pan. You have nice detailing with the hair, and the hands are sculpted to look like she is casting one of her hex spells. The downside to having both hands like that is that she can’t hold anything.

The cape is nicely sculpted to look like it has volume to it. Unfortunately, the cape is longer than the figure, so she can’t stand up unless the cape is angled outward. However, the cape does double as a figure stand when angled outward. Without the cape on, she does not stand very well.

Paint - The paint is pretty standard. A shiny red for her costume, with her skin painted pink to simulate stocking-type material on her legs and arms like she has in the comics. She has vibrant red lipstick on her lips and basic brown coloring on her hair. There isn’t a lot of shading or wash effect on her, but that doesn’t really seem to hurt the look of the figure.

Articulation - Scarlet Witch has the standard amount of articulation for Marvel Universe figures. She has a hinged ball-joint for the head. She has fairly good head movement despite the long sculpted hair. Hasbro used a soft plastic for the hair giving it more flexibility. It does restrict movement from left to right and when looking up. Swivel-hinge shoulders and wrists, hinge elbows, swivel biceps, swivel calves, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees, and ball-jointed hips and torso are included. As with most female figures, the joints are made with very thin plastic so she appears to be petite. She doesn’t have any articulation at the waist.

Accessories - She comes with a translucent piece of plastic sculpted to look like one of her hex bolts. The piece fits over either hand. They only gave her one, so she can’t cast a hex bolt from both hands at the same time as shown on the packaging artwork. She also has a cape you can remove if you pop the figure’s head off first.

Fun - Overall, this is a pretty good-looking figure for a character that has been popular over the years. You can put her in multiple poses and pair her off with multiple teams such as the Avengers or with Magneto’s original Brotherhood Of Evil Mutants, or even with the newly formed Uncanny Avengers from Marvel NOW if you wanted. Granted, she wears a new costume in that title as do all the other team members.

Overall - This is a nice addition to the Marvel Universe line. It’s always nice when you see female characters added to the line-up, and for the most part Hasbro has done this character justice in 3.75” form.

Final Score - 3.5/5
