Marvel Universe Nighthawk Figure

Marvel Universe Nighthawk Figure

Jay Cochran - March 07, 2013

Hasbro manages to squeeze another of the more obscure characters from the Marvel Universe into their line of 3.75” figures with Nighthawk, but is he worth squeezing into your own collection? Read on to find out.

Check out hi-res images for this figure in our GALLERY below.

Packaging - The packaging for this figure is similar to what we have seen with previous Marvel Universe waves. The art on the top left corner of the card front continues to be done by comic artist Mike Deodato Jr. while the figure is clearly displayed below along with the figure’s name. The little comic shot is featured on the bottom left corner of the card.

The back features an image of the figure along with a brief bio for the character and images for other figures in the wave. Towards the bottom is an image of Alpha Flight’s Sasquatch who says “Collect Them All! Just don’t call me furface!”

Sculpt - The figure seems to use a fairly standard Marvel Universe buck. His mask is sculpted on the face so the edges stick out a bit past the head. He has tiny claws sculpted on his hands. Though there is nothing to special about this sculpt, it does the job nicely.

Paint - Nighthawk uses dark navy paint with some black washes mixed in for most of the body with gold metallic for the mask, boots, gloves and the hawk symbol on his chest. The claws on his hands are silver, and his cape is a solid red. My figure has had some issues with paint chipping on his upper left chest area. This may be a problem unique to just my figure, but I would recommend caution when handling your figure. The mixture of black and paint on the body also seems to be a little miss-matched. There are portions of the body where they used navy and others where it’s straight black. This is mostly noticeable on the back side of the figure, which you don’t even really see when the cape is on. Still once you do notice it, it looks kinda funny.

Articulation - Nighthawk has a ball-hinged neck which is nice for posing the figure in flight positions. He can look up, down, left and right. He has swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, hinged-elbows and swivel wrists. He has the swivel ab and waist joints. The legs are connected at the waist with ball joints. Finally he has swivel thigh joints, double-jointed knees, swivel calf joints and ankle rockers.

Accessories - The figure comes with a removable cape that is made from soft rubber.

Overall - Other than the blemishes with the paint job, this is a pretty solid looking figure with good articulation and poseability. I will admit I know very little about the Nighthawk character other than he has been associated with the Defenders in the past, but I like seeing more of the obscure Marvel characters like this make it into the line from time to time. I would make sure you check the paint job on this one before you purchase it, but whether you’re a fan of the Defenders or just like obscure Marvel characters this is one you will probably want to add to your collection.
