Marvel Legends Series 15 Destroyer

Marvel Legends Series 15 Destroyer

Tom - September 05, 2007

Package Description
Odin, lord of Asgard, created the enchanted suit of armor called the Destroyer more than 1,000 years ago in anticipation of the day when the mysterious and vastly powerful Celestials might threaten to destroy Earth. The armor itself is inert unless animated by the life force of a god or human, but the Destroyer’s appetite for destruction is sufficient to overwhelm even the most well-intentioned occupant. Shortly after its construction, Odin buried the Destroyer in a mountaintop plateau to safeguard the vessel until it was needed. In battle after battle, the Destroyer has demonstrated that it possesses sufficient power to eradicate the gods of Asgard themselves. The Destroyer is the gods’ most powerful weapon—as well as their ultimate enemy, should it fall into the wrong hands.

Appearance
From what I've seen, the Destroyer is accurate to his comic look minus the nodes on his hands and legs. However, there's a lot more texture to this figure than simple gray. There's a lot of washing everywhere, so much so I'm not even sure what the color of the actual mold is. I believe the mold is black with silver texturing from the color of the elbow joint. I wouldn't say this gives him a metallic appearance, but it does have a weathered, tough look that I love on this figure.

Because the colors of the Destroyer don't vary much, most of what you notice is his outline, particularly against a dark background. The build of this figure is good, it has a strong but unexaggerated look (for a suit of armor anyway). The most noticeable joint is the torso, but the swelled chest is a good look. I especially like the eyes, which are the only splash of color on the whole figure beside blue on the nodes. The eyes give off the classic robot light up eyes effect, although the blue is a little dull. Overall the figure looks intimidating, tough, and just plain cool. Part of that is the knowledge of what the armor is, the rest the effect of his stature and features.

Articulation
Articulation is exactly the same as Thor Buster Iron Man. He's got a wide range of motion for a large figure, but he still falls in some of the pitfalls of his large cousins. His arms can't hang by his side, which can give him an unnatural look. He also can't make fists, so I guess he's stuck grabbing or shooting energy blasts. His joints also were pretty easy to move out of the box, which was nice.

Poseablility
It could be difficult to get anything extreme out of Destroyer, but it could be done. However, I think this figure's strength will lie in an attitude I would sum up with "get out of my way or die." This guy's tough, and he's got nothing to prove. In that respect, I think it's easy to pose him. Since Destroyer's not going to be flying heroically into the night or something, I think every collector will get a variety of good poses to his liking.

Final Judgment: 7
Destroyer's stature and paint job can really make this figure stand out in a bunch. It's not an innovative sculpt, but it is solid and reliable. For the character, I think it's appropriate. I really think the armor has the aura of power that it should, and for that, the figure deserves an exceptional.

I love my Destroyer, the paint on him is top notch and the plastic and sculpt are great as well. I'm not into chase figures and the "character" means nothing to me, but the figure is just soooo good that I felt really lucky to get one.

I actually thought it was a pretty good figure variant or no variant. It's got a great range of motion considering his size and great balance. I'd also say he's one of the few figures I couldn't ask for a better version of (unless it was a 12" version for size changing capabilities).

Nothing amazing, but for a varient it's awesome.
