Producer Gale Anne Hurd and stars Ray Stevenson and Julie Benz are presenting an exclusive first look at Punisher: War Zone! coming out this December.
This movie is not a sequel but a reimagination of the franchise. This movie will stick close to the Max version of the character. The release date is 12.5.08.
Hurd says that Marvel and Lionsgate listened to the fans in creating a Punisher that sticks closer to the comics. The producers choice the Max series for an ultra-violent, vengence seeking death machine. From New York.

The director is on her honeymoon today. She married the first assistant director from the Punisher movie. She is a world martial arts champion. Prior to becoming a director, she was a stunt woman. She understands action and how it can be portrayed effectively on the screen.
Stevenson says that he is thrilled to be at SDCC. He took his character cue from the Max series. That is the bedrock on which this version of Frank Castle is built.
The new trailer for Punisher was shown. Jigsaw is featured throughout. He looks very ugly. The trailer is non-stop action. Lots of guns and explosions. The movie is dark and promises a lot of violence.
Stevenson spent about 3 months training. At the crack of dawn he was taken out for endurance training, a necessary preparation for the heavy demands of this very physical role. He had to learn to be able to take a lot of blows so that he could handle the extensive stunt fighting.
There will also be a lot of other characters - Microchip, Detective Soap, and Booty Ansky - in the movie coming straight from the comics.
The lead female character is the disatisfied wife of a cop. Her life changes when she meets the Punisher.
The Punisher gets his extensive arsenal from Microchip. All the weapons shown are currently in use by the US military.
Benz says she didn't read comics as child. She claims she was a girly-girl. She was giggling like a girly-girl while she said it.
Stevenson says that growing up in England, he spent most of his time fighting in the streets, so he never had a chance to read comics. When he did read Punisher in preparation for this role, he couldn't put it down. He hopes this franchise will run for a long time and that he gets to play Frank Castle.
A second video was shown, a music video with footage from the film set to Day of Vengence The video was highly energetic, showcasing brutal bone-crunching violence and lots of blood.
This movie has a totally different vibe than the Thomas Jane film. It looks dark, violent, cruel and exciting.
