Don Cheadle is stepping in to replace Terrence Howard in "Iron Man 2," Marvel Studios' sequel to its summer blockbuster.
Marvel had no comment, but sources close to the deal said negotiations with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor, who is shooting Antoine Fuqua's "Brooklyn's Finest" with Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke.
Rhodes is expected to play a larger part in the sequel, which is rumored to go beyond high-tech villains. Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay.
Jon Favreau is returning as director, and Robert Downey Jr. is expected back as billionaire industrialist Stark/Iron Man. Gwyneth Paltrow also is expected to be back as Stark's assistant, Pepper Potts.
neither of these two should be War Machine Jim Rhodes. Cheadle is the closest to a real Man that they've picked out of the two for Rhodey. Personally I think the closest look, grit, and build that they Should get right now would be Michael Jai White.
I second that. He would fit the role perfectly.
Somebody needs to get on the horn with favreau, lol.
I like Cheadle but I think Howard is more like I picture Rhodey. I don't see Cheadle as a tough, dare devil fighter type. Despite being an excellent pilot/engineer, Rhodey is very physical. Cheadle is kind of scrawny. I don't see him scrapping. I'm surprised Howard backed out because War Machine could easily get his own spin-off movie.

Not to offend anyone on the board,.. but Howard was VERY Gay-ish sounding for a character who IS more brash, take charg-ish & kind of Bad ass.
If you watch the movie again he talks kinda woman-like to the crowd & to Starks.
I was disapointed with his soft girly speaking.
Yeah Don is a little shorter & not as bulky, but as far as serious role acting he wins hands down
btw the two. I can see him as a serious soilder more than Howard.
THANK YOU CUZ! i was saying the samething! he sound really.....lets say... funny
yeah terrence howards voice is kinda high pitched.i kinda chuckle at the scene when he comes in to tonys house after obi yanks his heart thing and hes calling for tony he sounds kinda goofy. but he was cool in hustle and flow and the brave one.
i think this guy will do a better job. but yeah, at least he looks more like the toybiz warmachine than terrance does. OR they could of got marlon wayans to do it since he played ripcord in g.i.j.o.e. or one of the other wayans bros.
Lol ! is tru he look's like war machine action figure from series 9 ...
I thought Howard wanted to be War-Machine so badly. I can't wait to hear his side of the story. Don's character in Rush Hour 2 had a brief Kung-Fu fight with Jackie Chan. Will he be in battle in Iron Man 2? I hope Rhodes' character gets to have a harder edge. I liked Howard but felt sometimes his voice sounded a bit on the soft side. He's still a good actor, though. I always wanted Morris Chestnut to be James Rhodes/ War-Machine.

have you guys watched the deleted scenes and bonus features on the iron man DVD?
rhodes had a few scenes that painted him as the true BAD ASS he needed to be! why they cut out those scenes, i have no idea. well, there was one with him firing the humvee mounted fifty cal when stark got his heart injury, but i think they cut that because it looked like they just left stark for dead.
anyway, this is bad news to me. i thought terrence did a great job, and if you think he is too girly, watch The Brave One. he is a bad ass in that, and i was really waiting for the iron man sequel to show rhodes really get aggressive.
don cheattle?! ... really?? damn.
now i'll have to watch the movie pretending its really terrence, the same way i had to watch indy 4 pretending the crazy guy was sean connery.

This bytes. This franchise is just getting started and already a replacement, geez!?! Marvel could have been a bit more patient and a bit more open minded. Just because the guy didn't accept right away they say ok ,next?? Marvel dropped the ball on that one.
Cheadle is an ok actor but he's no Terrence Howard,i feel Howard fit the role better. I don't blame Howard, the guy is smart,he know's the movie was a hit and he knows the next one will be even more of a hit so its just plain normal he wants a bigger cut.
I guess all we can do is hope for the best and hope Favreau works his magic.
