Tobey Maguire has stated that
Spider-Man 4 will start "sometime next year" in an interview on the January 8, 2009 edition of
Jimmy Kimmel Live.
Asked by host Jimmy Kimmel when
Spider-Man 4 would actually begin production, Mr. Maguire stated that it would start next year.
Mr. Kimmel also asked about the
rumor that the film was delayed due to script issues, but Mr. Maguire brushed it off by saying that the film was never began production, and their aim is to simply work to bring the best Spider-Man film to the screen.
He also began to reiterate that the film would begin production sometime next year, and when he began to think about it, he retracts and says that there are just a lot of things that need to be done prior to the film coming to theaters.
Mr. Kimmel did not press further, so it is unknown if Mr. Maguire forgot about what time of year it was, which happens to everybody, or if the film is experiencing script issues and he is trying to downplay these rumors.
The tentative release date for the film is May 6, 2011.
