According to an article but Deadline, Sony is close to choosing the young actor who will play the role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man in their upcoming re-boot of the Spider-Man movie franchise.

This past Friday the studio reviewed video of screen tests of the actors who are in serious contention for the part. According to Deadline, the people Sony is looking at are as follows:

- Jamie Bell (the Billy Elliot star who wrapped the Kevin Macdonald-directed The Eagle of the Ninth)

- Anton Yelchin (Star Trek, Terminator Salvation)

- Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass)

- Andrew Garfield (The Social Network)

- Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief)

- Alden Ehrenreich (Tetro)

- Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince)

- Michael Angerano (Lords of Dogtown)

No one has won the job for the upcoming Marc Webb directed film but the studio wants to make a decision very soon and expects to move into production by the end of the year. The script is still being finalized by Jamie Vanderbilt and the film will be shot in 3D with a July 3, 2012 release.
