AmuroMkll gives us a nice look at the new 3.75" Marvel Universe Guardians of the Galaxy boxset. Check out his images and thoughts on the set below:
The set comes with 4 characters, namely Star Lord, Rocket Racoon, Drax the Destroyer and Groot.
You might say WOW! a total of 4 in a boxset! but in actuality you are getting only 2 and 3/4 as Rocket racoon counts for only Half a figure and Groot only a quarter (actually he's more like an accessory)
The back of the box comes with a short introduction about the Guardians...
"In the wake of the devastation left by the Annihilation Wars, the galaxt was left unprotected. In a forgotten place at the edge of the universe, a group of heroes came together, determined to fill that void. From their base in deep space, the GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY protect the cosmos from threats both large and small.
That's it for the packaging, now for the figures.
Groot: he's basically just a nifty accessory, given that Groot has variable height, he comes in his miniature form complete with flower pot. Sizewise, he barely comes up to the knees of a regular MU figure.
Rocket Racoon: He's basically a statue, and like herbie, fits more into the accessory category.
He does come with a nifty looking blaster and has some limited articulation though....
- Ball jointed head
- Ball jointed tail
- A swivel right arm which became useless as hasbro decided to glue it on
Size wise, he's around the size of a Superhero Squad figure, here he is compared with SHS Sabretooth.
Drax the Destroyer: I remember Drax from the infinity wars as the big lumbering hulk like brute, with the same angry disposition, however, I am unfamiliar with his appearance in this boxset, though I must admit that it's pretty cool!
He uses the same mold as Absorbing man and luke cage, which, judging from the box art, fits him perfectly. He does sport a new head though, and I'm happy to say that Hasbro did a good job!
He also has new molded hands, which can either hold a gun, or the knives that he came with well, as the last 3 digits are fused with the thumb, giving him a more secure grip.
The best part? He can stow both his knives behind his belt!
Star Lord: Perhaps the most anticipated figure out of the lot, Star Lord makes use of the AIM Soldier/Ghost Rider mold.
The only difference he has moldwise is his belt.
He comes with a new head that's amazingly detailed, and he has 2 mean looking blasters for accessories. For what it's worth, Hasbro has perfectly captured how he looked in his line art.
Parting shot for the Guardians of the Galaxy.
All in all, though Hasbro just put together another bunch of recycled parts, they threw in enough stuff to make this a fresh new set. I especially welcome the addition of new characters in our ever growing Marvel Universe!
Go get yours now!
