Family Dollar Variant Marvel Universe Avengers Figures Found

Family Dollar Variant Marvel Universe Avengers Figures Found

Jay Cochran - December 06, 2011
For those of you who love variant figures, it looks like it is time to start checking your local Family Dollar store. According to multiple reports the discount chain is getting in a wave of Marvel Universe variant figures. Reports state that the wave includes Modern Thor, WWII Captain America, Extremis Iron Man. Iron Man seems to be the exact same as the previously released version, but Cap has more vibrant and bright colors and Thor is made to look like the recent SDCC exclusive Marvel Legends Heroic Age Thor with the lightening effect. It is unclear if these are actually exclusive to Family Dollar, bur for now anyway that is were everyone reports finding these for $8 each. Check out a image of Thor below in our GALLERY courtesy of MN reader Starkiller82. Also be sure to follow our forum thread below for more images and area reports for these figures.

Stopped at family dollar yesterday and they didn't have any marvel figs at all. Kind of disappointed.

Got a couple Thors from FD tonight. Pretty cool looking. Looking to trade for a Ultimate Iron man #36 from the Iron Man 2 line MOC or loose, whatever

Have you checked out TRU's lately? I finally found that IM at a TRU just before Christmas. Only one, so I don't have extra right now and I'm not looking for the FD figs anyway. Just wanted to let you know that IM has been getting later waves at TRU's lately. I think Thor's have too supposedly but I still haven't found a Sif for my pegasus.... :o(

If any one grabs an extra Thor or two (I keep one on card and open one  ), I just picked up the warriors 3, Armored Savage Opress, and a CA 15 comic color hydra for trade.

I have been to about 10 to 15 in the area and all they have is the reg. versions or none at all. I just cant justify spending any more money on gas to find this one figure, as he is not a real "need" for me, and there is absolutely nothing else I need in these stores. So I am turning to these wonderful boards for help. Thanks

The 3 I have been to have toys everywhere. The toys section, holiday gifts (more toys), endcaps...They are tagged $8 on the figures themselves but have been located (sometimes) with the gifts that have the red $5 sale banners. The stores I've been to are completely unorganized so GL :)

Thanks. Wolverine. That's pretty much what I expected the answer to be.

Yeah, I agree with Wolverine. I have been to four. One of them, I couldn't find at all. The other three stores took me 10-15 minutes to find them. Two of them just had them on the shelf, while one store had them on the very bottom peg, pushed back. No consistency at all between stores.

My local stores only had the original paint jobs, not the new versions.......
