Following up from
yesterday about news of a new Avengers animated series in the works from Marvel, we now have more details for that show along with some details about a new Incredible Hulk animated series called "Hulk & The Agents Of S.M.A.S.H.
TVGuide.com caught up with Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Joe Quesada and got the details.
Like with Ultimate Spider-Man which just
recently got picked up for a second season on DisneyXD, both of these new series will be produced in-house by Marvel Entertainment. The lure of having total control of it's own property is probably a big reason why Marvel has opted to pull the plug on the existing Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes animated series after the second season, which from all indications was a fairly popular show in it's own right.
Another reason for the new Avengers series is likely so they can tie it in more closely with the recent Avengers movie and continue to build off the tremendous success that movie has experienced. According to Loeb this new series will take place in the same universe as the movie,
"Jeph Loeb: The Avengers movie has been the ambassador to the world for the Marvel Universe so we want a show that has the feel and the tone and the incredible adventures like that movie. So the next project that we're working on — and this is down in our lab, top secret, with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents protecting us at all costs — is Marvel's Avengers Assemble, which will be a brand new and really extraordinary looking animated series dealing with the Avengers in that same world."
The team for this series will consist of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow and new to the team The Falcon. Falcon has been rumored to be making appearance in the next Captain America movie, so does this mean Falcon will also be in the next Avengers movie as well? I guess only time will tell on that one.
When asked if the series would be skewed towards an older audience, Loeb responded by saying no, but that it would be filled with gigantic action and interacting among the characters and their voices that the movie has.
As for the new Incredible Hulk series, it will include Hulk as well as the Red Hulk, Skaar, She Hulk and A-Bomb.
For the animation style of these new shows, it looks like we can expect something similar to what we have seen with Ultimate Spider-Man, a combination of 2D and CG.
The most surprising thing revealed in the article is that neither series has yet to be picked up by a network. Obviously DisneyXD which is owned by Disney, and also owns Marvel would be the most likely candidate, but at this time it apparently is not a sure thing that we will be seeing either series there.
