In honor of the influential artist and creator Jack Kirby, the intersection of Delancey and Essex in New York City has been officially renamed Yancy Street/Jack Kirby Way.
In partnership with the City of New York, Marvel has installed a commemorative sign that pays tribute to the inspiration that Delancey and its neighboring area provided to Jack Kirby, who was born Jacob Kurtzberg on August 28, 1917.
Jack Kirby, a celebrated artist and prolific storyteller, is recognized for creating some of the most iconic characters in the world, including Captain America, Iron Man, Ant-Man, the Hulk, and The Fantastic Four.
I have to stop by this area and see these new signs for myself!
Jack gets some quiet deserved due, but not like Stan Lee gets. But I'm not going to diss Stan at all, I would like to see Jack get even more accolades and acknowledgement.
And I wonder why Hasbro hasn't made a figure of Jack Kirby, yet...because, arguably there's more of his creations in the line than any other creator.
Nice to get some news that brings a smile to my face in these very difficult times. Outstanding!! JACK KIRBY!!
