More Marvel Legends News Next Week, Pre-Orders On The 22nd!?!

Jay Cochran - February 10, 2023
Hasbro's Dan Yun has announced there will be more Marvel Legends news coming sometime next week.

No word on what the news will be but our sponsor Entertainment Earth indicates on their Drop Zone page that there will be some kind of Marvel Legends pre-order happening on 2/22.

It's not yet known if Hasbro will be holding a Marvel Legends live-stream anytime this month or not. There will be a G.I. Joe live-stream happening next week on the 14th.

I mean, it should have been a set of alternate hands, but even if they weren't going to include an extra set of hands, why not just give the figure open, handlebar-gripping hands? It just doesn't make any sense. Decisions like that are maddening.

Exactly, it was clearly a desperate last minute decision. It only vaguely resembles the one from Marvel Rising

I think the tooling for that scooter was complex enough and involved enough that they didn't just intend to use it for Deadpool alone, but also for Squirrel Girl from the outset. So, to that end, I don't think he addition was last-minute--so the lack of gripping hands is even more inexcusable. One of the perennial complaints about Hasbro is that when they go cheap, they go REALLY cheap, and it shows.I mean, the argument here is about including two extra gripping hands---an accessory pair. Is that REALLY going to break the bank there?? Or is the addition of the extras going to pump up the appeal of the set so that it sells through?? Some times, penny pinching needs to be foregone in favour of doing right by the character and the toy. In my view, it makes the product BETTER, which over the long-term is the bigger draw.

Squirrel Girl I feel wasn't originally planned to be a Rider, but was thrown in at the last minute given the lack of hands and the tenuous fact of having a scooter. Still it would be nice to see more vehicles done and horses.

Never cared for the character, but making it a "rider" with that non articulated tail, and NO GRIPPING HANDS....If that's true that its was "last minute", then its just another example of the laziness and ineptitude the Legends line has been suffering from for too many years. There's no excuses here; hasbo is not some new company, still finding its way. This is worse than forgetting to put Nova's symbol on the back of his costume. Planned or not, last minute or not, they are the industry leader, and have one of the most popular licenses out around with Marvel. Any decision to make this kind of vehicle, must have figures that can be properly used with it. Frankly it would be better if another company pick up the license from hasbro, or at least let another company share it so that consumers have a choice. This kind of thing has just eroded the joy out of the line, and I fear it (along with other issues) will make it collapse.

Yeah, the Riders seemed to be doing all right, until the Squirrel Girl set (which didn't even come with hands that could grip the scooter's handlebars...) was overproduced and clearanced out. They should definitely make more of them, even if each is an individual item, as opposed to an ongoing assortment.

Yeah, personally I thought those did pretty well. If there was one stinker in the batch I'd say it was the WWII MCU Captain America. I know the Squirrel Girl set was not a banger either, so I think the stink of those two kinda help seal the fate for that program. Not to mention what they did to the hip joints on that unfortunate Cosmic GR figure. Eeeyeww, who let that one through? I still think there are quite a few characters that could benefit from this format; Danny Ketch, Carter Slade, Black Knight, Brunhilde, just to name a few. Also throw in the limes of Modern Cap, Smythe and maybe even the Fantastic Four with connection compatibility, and this program has plenty of life left in it. Hell, if they could do a fair job of doing Iceman (who still hasn't received all that good a figure) and a cool ice slide with pieces that can be moved and connected for multiple display options, I'd bite in a second, and i know I'm not the only one to admit that. I dunno, it just seems like another case where poor choices, most likely influenced by the intent to use and reuse existing molds, killed this format way before it's time

I'm hoping that the Hawkeye with Sky Cycle does well enough to convince Hasbro to bring back the Ultimate Riders

From that leaked list I know that I will want Hawkeye & his SkyCycle, Super Adaptoid, Thor/Destroyer, Black Knight/Sersi, Monica Rambeau / Dr. Doom and Skrull Queen / Super Skrull. My assumptions here are that the Captain Marvel / Dr. Doom is indeed Secret Wars and that the Super Skrull will actually not be Kl'rt but the same Illuminati version that Diamond is doing in their Marvel Select line (that is due to be released in April). I have no idea if those are correct but that seems to be the popular speculation. Of course the popular speculation was also that the Ultron for the Quantumania wave was going be a gold repaint, and we know how that turned out.

The maybes for me are the super pose-able Black Widow and the Hulk / Banner 2-pack. Iron Man Mark I is the easy pass for me unless it hits clearance for under $10.

I'm still hoping for some surprises that weren't already leaked!

I some how failed to get either the Super Skrull wave Doom or the retro card version, so I'm hoping that I dig the Secret Wars version (if that is indeed what it is). The only Hasbro version of Doom that I have is the white one from that Villains wave. I still have the first first Toy Biz Doom and a handful of the Doombot variants in my display.
