In a somewhat surprising announcement last week during San Diego Comic Con, Hasbro announced they would not be offering a Marvel Legends Haslab for 2024. Instead they would be experimenting with a new timed made-to-pre-order model with their newly announced Dragon Man figure.
So you might be asking how exactly will this new model differ from the Haslab? The two biggest differences will be that there will no longer be a publicly stated minimum order number. The second big difference is there will no additional stretch goals.
With the new system there will be a stated pre-order window and if you don't pre-order the figure during that window, then you won't be able to get the figure unless you go to the secondary market for it. At least that is what I was told By Hasbro during SDCC. In other words once the pre-order window closes you will no longer be able to purchase the figure. I was told likely people won't be charged for the figure until the pre-order window closes.
While their won't be a publicly stated minimum pre-order number as we saw with Haslabs, if by chance the figure doesn't receive enough orders to justify the cost of having it made, then likely all pre-orders would be canceled.
The figure will be sold as a Hasbro Pulse website exclusive.
While Dragon Man which will stand 10.5" tall and have a wingspan of 17.5" wide is considered a mid-sized figure, there is nothing that says Hasbro won't be able to use this new model for larger figures or vehicles down the road.
It's hard to say for sure, but my guess is we will see Hasbro offer figures with this made-to-pre-order model 1-2 times a year if the Dragon Man campaign proves to be successful.
We don't yet know how long the pre-order window for Dragon Man will be open for or even when it will go up for pre-order. My guess is that it will go up sometime in September, possibly even during the Hasbro Pulse-Con event which will be on September 13.
We still don't know how much Dragon Man will retail for. I could see it costing anywhere from $75-$175, but that is purely just a guess.
From the images Hasbro showed during SDCC, it looks like Dragon Man will include an extra pair of hands and a book. I am not sure if those accessories are finalized or not.

As a professional complainer I got to wonder if this thing would have been better with articulated wings rather than interchangeable wings. I do like that we get more plastic with the product but I think the cost to add the extra articulation versus the cost to include an entirely different set of wings would have offset each other. I get it. The optics mostly say More Plastic, More Bargain but that's not always the case. No matter. Looks good. I'll only pose it one way anyway. Just wondering what everyone else thinks.
As a side note I really like this body model and I really hope they find a way to tweak it to serve for the new Abomination figure. Actually the mold looks pretty great as it is but I'm afraid if people don't see the horizontal bands on the figure there will be an uproar. But what else is new? Personally I don't think they're 100 percent necessary because many times and especially in his earlier appearances the bands weren't actually a static detail in his appearance. But based on the fact that the excellent Toybiz version had them and the current Hasbro version has them I think it will be expected.
Dan Yun said recently on X that we should be getting charged for Made To Order Dragon Man this month... meaning July...so hopefully we'll have Dragon Man in hand in a couple of weeks!...I just revamped my entire Fantastic Four display to make room for Dragon Man & the upcoming FF She Hulk..so I'm very much looking forward to both of them!
Can. Not. Wait!!!!! So close, yet so far away!
I liked Haslabs, and wouldn't mind more, but this model is cool. Hope they reveal a new one at SDCC. Personally hoping they go with a set. Warriors Three, U-Foes, Serpent Society or Frightful Four would be pretty high on my list. A super deluxe Iceman with an Ice wall, snowballs and icicles on stands, blast effects for his hands and a huge modular iceslide that you could configure in several ways. Or just some of the many larger than deluxe figures like Magog or Zzzzaxx would be pretty cool as well. Here's hopin!

He is gorgeous. I have the FFC one but this..... This makes that look like a baby.
This looks so gooood! how the heck did this guy get it so early? anyways the excitement and anticipation for this one is rising, I can't wait till I can have my own Dragon man!, It's such a star, this already looks like figure of the year and I doubt there is anyone who would say otherwise.
This MTO thing is such a cool new program, i can't wait to see what they offer next.

Shown via Isaac Wong are in-hand images for the new Marvel Legends Made-To-Pre-Order Dragon Man figure which had a limited pre-order window on HasbroPulse last year. Shown with Dragon Man are the figures from the Mezco Fantastic Four One:12 Collective Deluxe Steel Boxed Set.

They have such a wide breadth of characters/uniforms/vehicles etc associated with them and Dragon Man is a great example. Its probably too much to ask the "decision makers" to expand their ideas, but hopefully this figure will open up to the likes of the Impossible Man, Thundra, Mole Man and the Frightful Four...not to mention Annihilus and Blastarr.
We def need another Mole man, Blastarr, and Annihilus!
