In a somewhat surprising announcement last week during San Diego Comic Con, Hasbro announced they would not be offering a Marvel Legends Haslab for 2024. Instead they would be experimenting with a new timed made-to-pre-order model with their newly announced Dragon Man figure.
So you might be asking how exactly will this new model differ from the Haslab? The two biggest differences will be that there will no longer be a publicly stated minimum order number. The second big difference is there will no additional stretch goals.
With the new system there will be a stated pre-order window and if you don't pre-order the figure during that window, then you won't be able to get the figure unless you go to the secondary market for it. At least that is what I was told By Hasbro during SDCC. In other words once the pre-order window closes you will no longer be able to purchase the figure. I was told likely people won't be charged for the figure until the pre-order window closes.
While their won't be a publicly stated minimum pre-order number as we saw with Haslabs, if by chance the figure doesn't receive enough orders to justify the cost of having it made, then likely all pre-orders would be canceled.
The figure will be sold as a Hasbro Pulse website exclusive.
While Dragon Man which will stand 10.5" tall and have a wingspan of 17.5" wide is considered a mid-sized figure, there is nothing that says Hasbro won't be able to use this new model for larger figures or vehicles down the road.
It's hard to say for sure, but my guess is we will see Hasbro offer figures with this made-to-pre-order model 1-2 times a year if the Dragon Man campaign proves to be successful.
We don't yet know how long the pre-order window for Dragon Man will be open for or even when it will go up for pre-order. My guess is that it will go up sometime in September, possibly even during the Hasbro Pulse-Con event which will be on September 13.
We still don't know how much Dragon Man will retail for. I could see it costing anywhere from $75-$175, but that is purely just a guess.
From the images Hasbro showed during SDCC, it looks like Dragon Man will include an extra pair of hands and a book. I am not sure if those accessories are finalized or not.
Check out our gallery of images of the upcoming Dragon Man figure from SDCC below in our GALLERY!
Toybiz style packaging really brings some memories, it's totally unexpected and kinda of weird considering pre order of the figure is done so this cannot be really used as a reason to increase sales with nostalgia. Now It makes me wish that Hasbro start using old Spider-Man classic red and blue card design for "modern" retro series figures.

Can't stinking wait for this. Something I've wanted for soooooo long. At one point I was on the verge of pulling the trigger and paying out the keister for the original but I knew Disney/Marvel was about to get the F4 license back and I knew they were going to do a BAF wave with Dragon Man so I decided to wait it out. Unfortunately the BAF wave never came out but I actually prefer this process better. Make it accurate and make it the right size and be up front that this is the only way we can do it right and let the customer decide if they want to partake. This is beautiful and I'm glad they didn't go the BAF route where the almost certainly would have went on the cheap and skimped on plastic and who knows what fate the wings would have suffered. And I guarantee the book and glasses accessories wouldn't even be a consideration. And I'm almost certain even the extra set of hands would not have been likely. I hope to see more of this type program in the future. Actually I think Shuma Gorath should have been done this way and possibly Juggernaut but I understand their desire to continue to push the Gamerverse product with the lack of MCU product projected for the next few years before Doomsday comes out and the waning interest on any product based on anything on Disney+ right now. Now what are the chances that they use and tweak this as the base for the upcoming Abomination figure. Size wise it looks about right and if you paint it green or rather cast it green it does look mighty Abomination like. Even with zero adjustments at this point.
So we're getting this guy and then the 97 Sentinel. Fingers crossed for maybe something MCU next, I'd love a AM2/Endgame Giant Man, or maybe Arishem.
In my 5 or so years of collecting, this is the first HasLab-like product that I have committed to. I know it's not a HasLab product entirely, but I'm very excited nonetheless. I passed on Galactus and Giant Man due to space restrictions, and Sentinel because I wasn't THAT interested, and we all know how the EoV turned out. Interested to see if we get a new made-to-order offering this year. Maybe some kind of Mephisto with a throne? Congrats to all that picked this up!
I am pretty damn excited, but reading past our past comments really is kinda funny. I've been pulling waaaay back on everything; figures, vinyl, comics. I just canceled my subs from the comic store. Besides the whole world issues, I have work going on at my house that is gonna drain my bank account pretty bad, just had to buy a new hot water heater, and had some other big expenses. So, if I weren't 100% on board with this figure, I might have canceled. And yeah, how will they deal with a large number of cancelations?

I still have the original from the Fantastic Four Classics line but I'm still excited for this update. I'll have to think long and hard about whether I want to sell that old one after I get this one....
Finally!!! We get an update and he looks incredible. Looks amazing with color we can see, like the shading and those open wings really pop. Can't wait to get him in hand. They took so long to show us an update I was worried he would be delayed somehow. A lot of toys to buy in the next few months...oh boy.
