Last week we told you how Marvel Studio's was looking at 3 potential candidates to direct the upcoming
Ant-Man movie after
Edgar Wright abruptly exited the project due to supposed script changes made by the studio that he was not happy with. Well since then apparently 2 of those 3 candidates Marvel was considering (
Rawson Thurber (We're the Millers, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story) and
Adam McKay (the Anchorman movies) ) have said no to Marvel. McKay was reportedly close to excepting the job but ultimately declined. That only leaves
Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland) on Marvel's shortlist of directors and if he declines it is unknown how the studio would proceed from there. Ant-Man is currently slated to open in theaters on July 31, 2015 and was expected to start production soon. The movie which will star Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas seems to have been plagued with problems since the get go and one has to wonder if at some point the studio won't just decide to pull the plug on it all-together. Since many of these characters end up with connecting roles in other Marvel movies and one might assume that Ant-Man who in the comics was a founding member of the Avengers and the creator of Ultron, the main villain slated for the second Avengers movie, that he might have a bigger role in the overall Marvel Cinematic Universe, only time will tell I guess.
