James Cameron has long been the undisputed box office king for having made the last two movies to hold the all-time box office take record, first with Titanic and then Avatar which has held the record up until now. That all however seems to be about to change, as Marvel's Avengers: Endgame which has already surpassed Titanic ($2.187) for second place having brought in $2.272 billion in less than two weeks is inching closer and closer to Avatar which holds the record at $2.788 billion. In response to that Cameron issued a nice congratulations to Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige via Twitter today.
"To Kevin and everyone at Marvel
An iceberg sank the real Titanic. It took the Avengers to sink my Titanic. Everyone here at my Lightstorm Entertainment salutes your amazing achievement. You've shown that the movie industry is not only alive and well, it's bigger than ever."
Of course assuming Endgame does dethrone Avatar which seems likely, Cameron will soon have an opportunity to regain the throne as Disney has already announced they will be releasing several new Avatar sequels in the coming years. “Avatar 2” will hit theaters on Dec. 17, 2021, "Avatar 3” will open on Dec. 22, 2023, “Avatar 4” will open on Dec. 19, 2025 and “Avatar 5” will launch on Dec. 17, 2027.
Hah, Cameron, Jodi Foster and the rest of the nay say's against Marvel and the MCU can go eat Crow's Feet. Eat it while its hot, it wont taste as bad. The MCU has hit Hollywood like a Zenith. Just like Ali and Tyson injected excitement and awe into boxing. The Meek shall inherit the earth. Not to be confused with Meek of Ragnarok fame, you know , Korg's friend. He was playing video games with Thor and them on, ... Anyway true believers know what I'm talking about. Time to take my medicine, bye.
Really don't think any of the upcoming Avater movies will threaten Avengers:Endgame .
Godzilla vs King kong stands a better chance for all I know.

if I were to imagine Cameron delivering this message in person, I'd picture him with a polite smile, barely trying to pretend he isn'tgrinding his teeth.

I agree in that I was never a fan of Avatar as a movie. In fact I thought it was a pretty crappy movie. The only draw was the at the time ground breaking special effects but Avatar is one of those movies that has developed a cult following over the years so regardless of how good or bad it is, people will still go see it, at least the second one. And you never know by the time the 5th one roles around they will have probably developed some kind of new gimmick like VR movies or something.
