The Apocalyptic Finale Of The Event Of The Year Arrives In A.X.E.: Judgement Day #6

Jay Cochran - July 20, 2022
In two days, a war between two of the most powerful factions in the Marvel Universe will erupt and your favorite heroes will face cosmic judgment like never before…

Written by comics mastermind Kieron Gillen and drawn by acclaimed artist Valerio Schiti, A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY is the new Marvel Comics crossover event that begins with the Eternals and X-Men embroiled in a deadly conflict and the Avengers struggling to restore peace. This intense saga will pay off various plot threads that have defined these franchises in recent years including mutantkind’s newfound immortality, the Eternals’ discovery of long-hidden truths about their species, and the Avengers' questionable encounters with the Celestials. A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY #1 hits stands this Wednesday and right now, fans can get their first look at the cover of the main series’ final issue as well as A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY tie-ins arriving in October and see a complete event checklist.

A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY #6 will conclude this new Marvel Comics epic with a fascinating and unforgiving climax. It’s not that nothing will be the same again – it’s that unless heroes can find a new way to be heroes, everything will be nothing forever.

Alongside artists Francesco Mobili and Pasqual Ferry, Kieron Gillen will also spotlight three central characters in key one-shots that will bridge the gap between the penultimate and final issue. A.X.E.: X-MEN #1 will examine Jean Grey’s intricate relationship with the Phoenix Force, burning away the mystery behind their connection once and for all and A.X.E.: ETERNALS #1 will tackle Ajak’s past decisions regarding the Celestials and how she plans to lead the Eternals through this latest challenge.

Alyssa Wong and Michael YG reunite to continue the saga of Lin Lie as the new Iron Fist in A.X.E.: IRON FIST #1. After the clash between Lin Lie and his brother Lin Feng, Lin, protector of the mystical city of K’un-Lun – must reclaim access to K’un-Lun! But not before he faces a trial unlike any other: SHOU-LAO THE UNDYING?! Loki also stars as this adventure as the pair confront judgment and face Iron Fist’s greatest challenge yet.

"Lin Lie's back, and so is Team Iron Fist!" Wong told Newsarama. "I'm thrilled to collaborate with Michael YG again for the next chapter in Lin Lie's story!"

Gillen teams up with artist Daniele Di Nicuolo to bring Eros the Eternal into the action in A.X.E.: STARFOX #1! Complete with a new look designed by Valerio Schiti, this one-shot presents an important chapter for Starfox’s exciting future.

"Having done so much work with Thanos and the Eternals' shared history, the most common recurring question was ‘What about Eros?’” Gillen told ComicBook.com. "I smiled enigmatically, which everyone missed, because no-one is in my house, watching my response, except my cats. I really should have thought that through. Anyway: as the world falls into hell, I finally reveal all. The world, more than ever, needs love. Can Eros finally live up to all the hopes he embodies?"

Judgment Day comes for Carol Danvers in Kelly Thompson and Andrea Di Vito’s CAPTAIN MARVEL #42. Though Carol has had more than enough of being judged lately, there’s no escaping THIS Judgment Day as it determines whether Earth lives or dies. But as Carol and Lauri-Ell give their heroic best to prove their worth an...unexpected new player emerges.

"So on Captain Marvel we were just coming out of our own quite 'judge-y' arc when we tied in, so we had to get really creative in how to approach this story and still keep things fresh, and I'm so delighted that it happened that way," Thompson told Popverse. "Sometimes a limitation like that actually helps you create something a bit different -- and our guest artist Andrea Di Vito really embraced the idea in the most amazing way."

Writer David Pepose and Juann Cabal continue their thrilling guest arc spotlighting Invisible Woman in FANTASTIC FOUR #48. Trapped alone inside the Baxter Building with no backup in sight, the Invisible Woman battles her way up 35 flights of death traps to stop the mad science of Oubliette Midas! But with the clock running out on the Celestial’s judgment, can Sue save her husband, Reed, from becoming the latest cog in the Exterminatrix’s interdimensional war machine? Can the Thing and the Human Torch free themselves from Oubliette’s twisted schemes, or will the hijacked Baxter Building prove to be the FF’s ultimate undoing?

Each issue of IMMORTAL X-MEN has seen Kieron Gillen and Lucas Werneck dive deep into the motives of mutantkind’s leaders and in IMMORTAL X-MEN #7, they’ll turn the spotlight on one of the most beloved X-Men–Nightcrawler! if you’re the heart of the X-Men, there’re days you want to tear out people’s heart. Judgment day is one of them. What extreme steps will Nightcrawler take in the name of the Spark?

Witness the divine judgment of the Eternals’ brutal attack on Mars in Si Spurrier and Rafael Pimentel’s LEGION OF X #6. Judgment Day has arrived…and our very own Legion is on the chopping block! The Eternal Uranos launches a savage attack on Arakko, but it’s not only the planet Mars that’s at stake. Is David Haller a hero, will he succumb to his madness just as everyone – perhaps even the Celestials themselves – predicts?

As the dust settles and the costs are counted, change is coming to Arakko — starting at the top in Al Ewing and Madibek Musabekov’s X-MEN RED #7. After the catastrophic war with the Eternals, the Great Ring declares that ISCA THE UNBEATEN is no longer fit for the Seat of Victory. But Isca’s power is never to lose. If she won’t step down…is there anyone on Arakko who can make her?

Event architect Kieron Gillen’s continues his bold work on the Eternals mythology alongside artist Guiu Vilanova in A.X.E.: DEATH TO THE MUTANTS #3. It looks like the end of the world. The world is taking it personally. The Machine That Is Earth is having a very bad day.

The astounding conclusion to “The Hunt for X” arrives in Benjamin Percy and Robert Gill’s X-FORCE #33. Mutants have staked their claim as the dominant species. That just means it’s time for Kraven the Hunter to prove once more he’s the apex predator. Kraven, Wolverine, Omega Red, dinosaurs, and more in this Kraven tale unlike any other, sure to reverberate for decades to come.

Check out all the October covers now and be there when the latest Marvel Comics epic begins in A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY #1 this Wednesday!

Many X-Men will be killed by this clown only to be resurrected by the Krakoa protocol crap. Death has meant nothing in comics for a long time but this is just ridiculous. I remember when Phoenix died in 1980...I was honestly moved by her death. Now mutants die every issue to come back willy nilly. Means nothing.

Ok...I'm done with that rant. Sorry if you are a CURRENT X-men fan.

Bring back good stories about good characters that MEAN something. Not just these "EVENTS"

I miss classic writing and art.

After I-don't-want-to-tell-you how many years of collecting comics I've had, I can only say, I agree. For the first time since I was 16 yrs old, I've cancelled my "pull/hold" lists and haven't visited my local comic shop in over a year. Even more than the outrageous pricing, is the fact that books are just horribly written and drawn now.

I didn't leave comics. Comics left me.

I was thinking about comic creators and their creations the other day, and made an interesting observation. I started looking at the absolute best characters and when they were created and I found that Marvel hasn't had an explosion of great characters in about 30 - 40 years. Sure, every decade has shinning stars, but the 2000's have almost no standout characters. The 1990's biggest hit was Deadpool, the 1980's had their share, but when you get to the 1970's and 1960's, HOLY HELL! The absolute best characters came out of those two decades, hands down! Made me wonder what Marvel's marching orders are for their creators. I remember a writing teacher once saying that the order of priority with a film should be character, plot and then spectacle, but the problem with Hollywood is they have things in reverse order in most instances. I think the same could be said for Marvel Comics. Bet if they started with character and not the next big crossover event, we could get a cascade of great new characters like the 60's and 70's gave us.

Hard pass just out of frustration with Marvel.

Eternals - Never a fan, but the movie was okay. Still, not interested in learning more about them, so characters I am clueless on just don't appeal to me. And speaking of which...

X-Men - Not crazy about the whole Krakoa storyline. Too many characters over too many books. And why the heck are Rogue & Gambit NOT on the same team? Jean & Scott are. Reed & Sue too. Rogue's on the cool team and Gambit's playing Dungeon & Dragons in the Land of Oz. There was a reason the X-Men were great in the 90's.

Avengers - Anyone remember when the Avengers were a cool book that just kept chugging along, to something like 400 issues? Now it's every two years a new team, new start, new everything. And boy have they beaten the Ghost Rider to death. Johnny Blaze was great and Marvel got lucky when they upgraded GR to Danny Ketch...usually changes like that tend to annoy fans, but that one worked out pretty well. What are we up, GR #9 in a car, what's next GR #10 on a scooter? They destroyed a once great character.

IMO, DC hit rock-bottom. Not reading anything over there any more. I've clung to a couple Marvel books, but at this rate, I'm being all but shoved out of the comic-loving club. Bummer.

The Marvel Universe braces itself for JUDGMENT DAY! Written by mastermind talent Kieron Gillen and featuring the grand-scale artwork of Valerio Schiti and color artist Marte Gracia, A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY is an upcoming Marvel Comics event that kicks off when the Eternals start a vicious war with their new immortal rivalsthe X-Men! The Eternals plan for mutant annihilation will include unleashing the most brutal members of their species starting with URANOS THE UNDYING! Imprisoned for millions of years, the grand-uncle of Thanos will be instrumental in the conflict, leading the attack against the new mutant planet of Arakko. And Uranos wont be the only new Eternals threat that the X-Men will have to face. Head to Marvel.com now for the reveal of THE HEX, mega-powerful Eternals that have awakened from a millennia-long slumber to stomp out mutantkind."The Eternals are the aggressors here, Gillen explained to Popverse in a recent interview. This is the Eternals about to go to war. You get to see the prime Eternals building their armories, working out how they're going to kill people, various plans and kidnappings, and the good Eternals perhaps being a bit more lost. It's preparation for war. That's what it is. I think that's the best way of describing it, as well as being also a really good restatement of what's going on in the Eternals. Because if you haven't read issues one to 12, this is like, 'OK, I don't know anything about Eternals. I don't know, why would [they] be going to war? Who are they even?' It's that as well. This is the preparation of the war happening and everything you need to know going in."Check out a new teaser below and experience the start of Marvel Comics latest crossover epic when A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY #1 arrives on July 20.Retailers, dont forget to order your copies of A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY #1 by Monday, June 20!A.X.E.: JUDGMENT DAY #1 (OF 6)Written by KIERON GILLENArt by VALERIO SCHITIColors by MARTE GRACIALetters by VCs CLAYTON COWLESCover by MARK BROOKS & SABINE RICHOn Sale 7/20

Why is Makkari's skin color white in the first cover? She was reborn as a black woman.

According to Bleedingcool, Mark Brooks says she was the correct skin tone and it was a simple coloring and light filter mistake that he forgot to proof check and he has already changed it and the cover will be correct by the time it hits print.

Whew! That was a close one. Twitter already had it's claws out. Probably still does until it actually comes out.

It might just be a color error. Sometimes a colorist under a time crunch to get a cover finished and who isn't familiar with all the characters makes a mistake like that.
