A New, Brutal Era Of Iron Man Begins!

Marvel’s Armored Avenger takes off for new adventures this October in IRON MAN #1! The new hard-hitting run will be written by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Spencer Ackerman (Reign of Terror; DC’s Waller vs. Wildstorm) in his exciting Marvel debut. Ackerman will be joined by rising star Julius Ohta (Hellverine, Alien).

Following today’s conclusion of Gerry Duggan’s Invincible Iron Man, Tony Stark is back on top after regaining control of his company, armor, and confidence. He’s determined to never hit rock bottom again, so when familiar threats like Roxxon and A.I.M. resurface, they’ll be met by an Iron Man more than willing to fight back, play dirty, and unleash every bit of his intellect to bring them down! When the best of his own technology fails him, Tony will build a brand-new armor unlike any seen in his over 60-year history. Dubbed the “Improvised Iron Man,” fans will see it assembled throughout the series as Tony does what he does best—tinkering and upgrading it to counter anything the world throws at him. The series will also debut a new Iron Monger, complete with a mysteriously-powered new armor…

Roxxon and A.I.M. team up to take on Stark Unlimited! But they’re ready for the old Tony Stark. This one? He’s a lot angrier than he used to be. Iron Man is going to war! New armor, old enemies, and unbelievable twists abound in this fresh take on a fury-powered Iron Man!

"Winning a Pulitzer is cool and all, but it's not writing for Marvel Comics,” Ackerman shared. “And to write IRON MAN is a very specific dream come true. A lot of comics' best creators have used Iron Man to tell big stories about security and freedom – with a whole lot of super hero action, of course – and I can't wait to build on their legacy."

On how his esteemed career in journalism prepared him to take on Tony Stark’s specific complexities, Ackerman added, “In my day job reporting on national security, I've covered the real-life equivalents of the Stark Expo, watched experimental weapons in action, seen their impact on human beings, and tracked the massive wealth they generate for a select few. Tony struggles with challenges – and is sure about to struggle with challenges – that I've covered for years. Only now I can write about them the way I've always wanted to: in a super hero universe!"

I still hope we'll see the Iron Man Marvel NOW armor and the Prometheum suit before any of these get produced. The Iron Monger they're showing here, looks like the pilot would be sitting inside of the chest, making it the cockpit. The upper torso could flip open (or down) for the pilot to get in (pics from Last Son of Krypton as crude example). Of course that's total speculation on my part; not enough info at this time to verify that. Still, that would be an impressive figure to make.

Liking the new suit and hope we get a Legends figure soon. I just don't like how we get redesigns of Tony's armor so quickly. Debating which comes quicker from Marvel, Iron Man armor redesigns or relaunch #1 issues.

They are definitely going for the modern day knight with that armour. Still the premise isn't the best, why can't they just let Tony have a company, like how many has he had

Why did we have to lose the Mysterium Armor so soon

The premise soundsreallyinteresting. I'm all for Iron Man going back to corporate thriller territory, but this armor downgrade is pretty grating. Uber capitalism is a threat abstract enough that you don't need to physically nerf Iron Man to make it menacing. Heck, I think it'd bebetterif not even Tony having his most powerful armor yet could truly help him against what Roxxon and A.I.M. are up to. There's a reason Lex Luthor is Superman's archnemesis. Because Luthor duking it out with Clark is not the crux of their rivalry.

Even if the Mysterium Armor is only temporarily out of the picture, and even if we see it featured for a few pages in issue #1 before it's benched, it's still annoying how writers seem to need to make such a clear cut between their run and whatever came before.

Dig the suit. I image we will get a Legend figure out of it eventually since they love cranking out Iron Man armors.

I have been loving the storyline this has grown out of, and I'm excited to see where this goes.

This doesn't sound uninteresting. I do like the back to the roots look of the improvised armor but in all honesty that Iron Monger looks absolutely ridiculous. Something with that many wires and pipes and exposed joints doesn't only look silly but it would be totally impractical in action. That thing needs to be taken back to redesign and tell the artist to tone down the stylism and incorporate just a little bit of realism.

That looks like a steampunk armor and I love it.
