Mail-Away Marvel Universe Nick Fury Figure (Update)

by Jay Cochran
June 1, 2009
Update 06/01/09: The Marvel site marvel.com/nickfury is now live.

The folks who have started to find the 4th wave of Hasbro's 3 3/4" Marvel Universe figures are finding a form packaged with the figures that give details on how one can get the new Marvel Universe Nick Fury figure which was first revealed at New York Comic Con earlier this year.

Apparently in order to get this figure one must sign-up for Marvel Comics Digital Comic book service.

$24.99 ($8.33/month) for a 3-Month or
$59.88 ($4.99/month) for and Annual.

The form indicates that folks should go to marvel.com/nickfury which if you go to now will see is not live. Hasbro has stated before that the details for this figure would be revealed officially on June 1 which is probably when the site will go live.

Though I understand Marvel wanting to try and push their new online subscription service, this idea does not seem to be a good one to me. Many action figure collectors actually don't even read comics or at least not enough to pay for an online subscription for them so I have to wonder if this will be the incentive they were hoping for or just incentive to pass on the figure or maybe even a new action figure line that is just starting to get going with many collectors all together?

When the Nick Fury mail-away figure was first announced many assumed it would involve collecting and sending in some type of proof-of-purchase from the figures themselves, I know I've been collecting those little circle Fury File pieces that come with each figure just in case. One can only hope that something like that will be implemented for this figure as well.

Check out below an image of the mail-away form that is shipping in the wave 4 Marvel Universe figures below thanks to Abesapien along with the figure itself which was shown at NYCC. Then share your thoughts about this in our comments section.

Small request: Does anyone have the Marauder Beret and second Punisher? I was thinking of making What If... The Punisher became an Agent of SHIELD with a 3rd Nick Fury, but I need to see how the hat fits first on Punisher II's head. Thanks.

You could always just use the Cobra Flint head.

check your spam folder, or contact customer service. there should also be a button to re-send incase it was deleted by mistake.

sorry if this has already been discussed somewhere in this thread, but has anyone who already had a digital comics subscription tried to get the form needed for the nick fury figure?

i extended my subscription (i know it's a divisive topic around here, but personally i love being able to just read a quick issue on my laptop whenever i want, and the selection of classic comics is really great) and got a message saying customer service would be sending me an e-mail shortly. that was week ago. i don't want to miss out on the chance to get one!

thanks!

Yeah, I went the Ebay route as well. I doubt there's much of anything I wanted to read on the Marvel Digital Subscription that I already haven't or don't own a hard-copy of, so wasn't worth it. I was also wary about Marvel automatically charging my credit card to renew the service after 3 months--which I guarantee they will do, so any of you who don't want it after 3 months, be sure to go on the site and CANCEL the service if you don't want to be charged for an additional 3 months.

I paid an extra $15 including the shipping from Singapore, and I'll probably recieve it in the next 2-3 weeks (I bought and paid for it last week). And I won't have to worry about canceling the Digital Subscription service, and I'll receive the figure at least a month sooner.

Looking forward to Nick Fury! Now I want an Ultimates / Movie version (they're interchangeable, really).

Another option for people who would not want Marvel to auto-renew would be to use a temporary credit card number. Then afterwards when they try to renew it will be declined. That'll show 'em. :wolverine2:

I'm almost positive that's fraud. Do you have any other bright ideas?

Umm no it is not fraud. You have to check if your credit card company has that option. I know for my Bank of America MasterCard I can create a temporary number to use online. They have this to prevent online ID theft or fraud. :p

if using a temporary credit card was fraud they wouldnt sell them in convenient stores.
