While on a distant planet, Spider-Man inadvertently discovered a device housing a strange black goo that oozed over him, seeming to become a brand new, black version of his costume. After returning to Earth and wearing it for some time, he discovered that the goo was actually some sort of symbiotic life form trying to bond with him... permanently. Using the ear shattering noise from inside a church bell tower, he was able to break the bond and rid himself of the symbiote. The symbiote eventually found a new host, Eddie Brock, a reporter with a grudge against Spider-Man. And thus, Venom was born.
Since his first appearance, Venom has been a fan favorite and a standout among Spider-Man's extensive rogues gallery. Surviving various incarnations, having been hosted by Eddie Brock and Mac Gargan among others,Venom is like a dark reflection of ol' web-head. The "Yin" to Spider-Man's" Yang." Constantly butting heads and facing each other in bitter, knock-down, drag-out battles. While Venom sometimes sees himself as a sort of hero, make no mistake, he has nothing but pure hatred for the wall-crawler, who himself has nary a n ounce of fondness to spare in return.
