yenmaster, does the MU version feel like the same plastic as the XMO, meaning the weight of it and the hardness of it?
I think the MU figure is a little softer, but not that big of a difference.
Qthagreat has a spot-on assessment. I'm surprised how well the Nightcrawler and Cyclops came out, simply with better paint apps. I also noticed the SW Nightcrawler has a shaded forehead and blue eyebrows while the one from this set has a non-shaded forehead and black eyebrows. Easy headswap to which ever head you like better. SW face looks more like the comic, though.
Also, the tassels on Thunderbird's arms DO move like the bands on the arms of the Juggernaut and Hawkeye figures. I have not slid them off, though, just adjusted them. I was not able to move them from the boots, so those are probably glued on.
Though a lot of people hate the ball-joints, I'm a fan of the XMOW line of Wolverine figures due to the scale & I think the MU Wolverine has a very odd sculpt & neck. So I really like this Wolverine figure. We got this tiger stripe color before, but it came unmasked & the masked one had a different yellow-tone and head. I think this one has a nice head sculpt & the head moves around better than any other XMOW Wolverine figure. Since he's smaller than everyone he fights, this figure can actually look up. If you are a fan of the XMOW Wolverine figures, you'll like this one. QthaGreat - 2010-06-15 @ 2:32 pm
oops my mistake, Colossus doesn't have ball joints!
The Set: Pro-I'm a fan of this era of X-men and the concept for the set is awesome!
Con-it should have been a 8 figure set to include Banshee and Sunfire and have a re-print of the Giant Sized X-Men one in the package! now theres an idea Hasbro! c'mon get with some creative thinking people!
Storm:Pro-decent effort at this figure. 5th best out of the set.
Con- figure needs alot of workl! it really looks like a lazy job. The boots should be a mold that comes away from the legs at her thigh to add 3D effect, Instead of a lazy paint-on! No arm articulation, the cape is too tight and her forearms and bracelets are ridiculously bigger than they should be? yuck! this figure looks thrown together carelessly
Wolverine: Pro-it's Wolverine again! (yay! ... sarcasm) 6th best out of the set.
Con-head sculpt looks off. Needs some work. ball joints on the legs, yuck! The X-force version of Wolvie was the best, just base everything off that.
Thunderbird: Pro-excellent figure! nice paint! can't wait to get it! 2nd best out of the set.
Con-tassles could have been a little looser, an not so stiffly molded to the arms and legs. again seem lazily done. If it isn't right, don't rush it!
Nightcrawler: Pro-far better loking paint application than the SW version. 3rd best out of the set. Con-needs more dark highlights in the hair and face.
Cyclops: Pro-stays true to the comic image! awesome paint application, far better than SW version. can't wait to get this one! Best out the set!
Con-none
Colossus:Pro-great looking figure. boots come off the knee to add 3d effect! Shiny paint application is better than MU version! 4th best in the set. Con-ball joint on the legs look a little stiff
Looks pretty damn good all around aside from the awful Wolverine. While tall, the MU sculpt is far better and doesn't have the terrible ball joints.
Hoping that the final retail version isn't like this but given the pictures of SDCC Cap and Team X Wolverine, I've lost most of that hope. As I've said before, this is the first time Hasbro has disappointed me and screwed up with this line. Don't be lazy and take sculpts from other lines if they have ball joints. It doesn't fit the MU line and it's a disservice to fans like me.
can anyone else smell what nightcrawler is cookin?
Although it is most definitely based on his original costume.
It's not his most recent costume its the one from Astonishing X-Men
Definately not his classic costume.
Sometimes Hasbro just needs to think outside the box. If they didn't want to go with a cloth cape for Storm, an effective way to go about giving her slightly more movement would be this. Here is a rear view of my design for her cape:
I may just clip the cape from her armbands, if I get this.
