Product Backstory
Betsy Braddock was the second child of physicist and Hellfire Club member Sir James Braddock. Like her twin brother Brian, her life was secretly manipulated by Merlyn. The twins shared a close connection, but as they matured, the adventurous Betsy also grew close to their older brother Jamie. Years later, her parents were murdered by the villainous computer Mastermind whose agent, Dr. Synne, also tried to kill Jamie. A charter pilot, Betsy flew herself and her brother Brian home, and Synne attacked them on their way. The psychic attack caused her to crash, and when she awoke, Synne's illusions made Betsy see her brothers as monsters and attack them. Perhaps because of Synne's mental intrusions, Betsy began to develop precognitive and telepathic powers.
With her powers growing stronger, Betsy was recruited into S.T.R.I.K.E.'s Psi Division, but when S.T.R.I.K.E. was infiltrated by Vixen, an agent of Slaymaster, the Psi Division fell under attack. Only three agents survived, including Betsy. When Betsy later encountered Slaymaster again, he overpowered her and gouged out her eyes. Refusing an offer for cybernetic eyes, Betsy began to rely on her psychic abilities and took cover in the Alps to recover from the ordeal.
Soon after, Betsy was kidnapped from the Alps by Mojo who turned her into Psylocke--brainwashing her and giving her cybernetic eyes. She was rescued by the New Mutants and taken to the X-Men's mansion to recover. Proving her bravery, Wolverine nominated Psylocke to join the X-Men, and she fought alongside them for a time before joining the dimension-hopping group, the Exiles.
