Billy and
Troy Brownfield let us know that they discovered at their local
Target in
Indiana the new
Marvel Legends movie based
Shang-Chi and comic based
Tony Stark AI figures.
These are part of the
Shang-Chi Mr. Hyde Build-A-Figure wave which will be a mix of movie and comic book based figures. While it's very surprising to already be seeing these hit Target stores, the weird thing is that this
Target only seemed to get just solid cases of these two figures. Hasbro often offers retailers solid cases for certain figures, but generally only the smaller retailers will order those. It's unusual to see a big box store like Target order solid cases.
Billy says the figures scanned up with individual codes in the
Target system as opposed to the normal assortment code. There were 5
Shang-Chi figures and 6
AI Tony Stark figures.
The
Shang-Chi movie is due out in theaters on September 3, 2021, so generally figures like these wouldn't be out until a month or so before the movies release. Of course the movie was originally supposed to be out earlier this year and got delayed due to COVID, which I am sure has screwed up the distribution for these figures. Still Hasbro hasn't even officially announced the
Shang-Chi movie figure, and as we
reported yesterday, the movie figures in the wave due contain some movie
SPOILERS.
Shang-Chi himself isn't really that spoilerish and the
AI Stark figure is comic based, so I suppose it's possible Hasbro made special arrangements to start shipping the figures out in parts to the big box retailers, starting with the non-spoilers ones. However if that were the case you would think the
Civil Warrior figure which is another non-movie figure in the wave would also be hitting stores now.
I guess only time will tell how wide spread the release of these two figures actually are and when we will start seeing the rest of the figures in the wave hit shelves as well. Thanks to
Billy and
Troy for the heads up and image of their find.

Couldn't agree more. Mr. Hyde has never been high on my list for a figure, but if you're gonna do him, do him right. A recurring theme on this forum.
At the same time, despite what a few here are saying about Hyde being a one-and-done, I do believe Hasbro is gonna give us the classic version before long. Maybe not as a deluxe release (then again if they load it up with effects, smashed furniture/debris, etc) but a two-pack or as another BAF.
What I usually do with MCU focussed waves is hate the reveal or preview images, buy the wave anyway (for the comic-based dudes) then end up liking the wave a lot more than I thought (Black Widow wave, though Red Guardian sucks before, during and after reveal and purchase).
That said, Iron Man AI is bad and untimely: the definitive pegwarmer of this wave (why this thing, then another hologram Iron Man in the excellent & imminent Ursa BAF Wave to follow?Actually, you could do Stealth Hologram Iron Man. So exciting.) and Civil Warrior is...okayish. He really needs a bunch of accessories and swap heads to get over with me. Even the BAF is a bit too cartoonish. It looks like they've super-sized the Leprechaun on the Simpsons rather than taken the psycho mid-1980s Masters of Evil version. That dude nearly killed Hercules: this one would just make him chortle.
So, yeah....Not loving this at all. Hope I'll be wrong, but this lot....? Its a big ask when the comic characters are just blah. And the BAF is blah-ha-ha.

I'll pick up the whole wave because I want Hyde. The Death Dealer and the Xialing figures are interesting and worth picking up. The others are "meh". Ironically the Shang Chi figures is probably the figure that I like the least of the wave.
Civil Warrior is still the only must get for me, though Death Dealer does look interesting

I were you, I'd wait an extra month, by then, this wave should be in the clearance section. I might get that classic comic colors IM then.
Wenwu arm articulation is painful and super odd ...

But GOTG at the very least had interesting designs. The main characters of This Shang Chi movie and Eternals all look like background character pack ins ala Luis and MJ. Like characters that are fun that they made but are not essential to any MCU collection.
Totally concur. Sorry but that actor & his outfit have zero vibes as the master of kung fu. Trailer will do nada to change my mind. Black Widow will be the only MCU movie I spend $ seeing at the theater this yr. Rest will be Redbox rentals. I hope they keep this movie martial arts based & don't give Chi any BS mystical powers.
What a nice clearance wave.

I could see Death Dealer being an army builder. I will definitely pick up Shang-Chi and Wenwu.
