Re-looking at this, I'm kinda glad I didn't get sucked into FOMO and buy this just for Smythe, while it looks good for what it is, it's still not comic, and the price tag to buy just this smythe would have been silly for me, both figures in this set are pretty dull to say the least, the more I see Smythe I think I'm happy to wait it out and see if we ever get a comic version, this does look a bit too cartoony to make me feel cool with buying it as a fudge in, The Peter is still better then the previous comic one with the Bubbles glasses, but it's just too Cartoon for me.

Almost exactly my thoughts. When I heard Smythe was coming out but as an animated figure I was hoping it would be close enough to comic version to stand in. Even after I saw the pics I still almost convinced myself it was good enough to purchase. But same as you I kept going back to pics and now reviews and it's clear to me that it is way to animation-y for my taste and I'll stand back and see if they do a comic version. To Hasbro's credit they did do a fine job emulating the cartoon version. So good it will not suffice as a comic version. A comic version would need a new head sculpt and some detail work but TBH it would probably be little more than a head sculpt and different paint scheme. And even then if it's close enough I will bite.

What would be really cool is if they did a wave with Smythe in it and the the BAF would be his Spider-Killer chair. If that's what it's called. I know I don't like when Hasbro finishes characters using the BAF process but in this case they wouldn't actually be completing the character because Smythe can be complete as a single figure. The chair BAF would be more of an enhancement.
