I think the MK 80 strikes a better balance because the way the gold is distributed plays nicer with the flowiness of the design language. Hmm... looking at the Mark 80 now I think I might agree with you more than I was previously. After my first initial glance I was finding my eyes were kind of "sloughing off" the design the way they do when looking at the Mark 85, but looking at it again now I'm appreciating the design much more. I think I was carrying over too many of my feelings about the Mark 85 due to 80's obvious design similarities, and not really looking at it as its own thing.
The MK 50 is still my favorite suit in the MCU but this is a very close second. The 85 was way too much gold for my taste.

It's really the best of both worlds.
