Yesterday during Hasbro's latest
Marvel Legends Fanstream we got a few accessory teases for upcoming action figures which seems to confirm the rumors that we will soon be getting
Marvel Legends figures based on the
Marvel Vs Capcom video games.
Of course we have already been getting figures that fit in well with those video games including the
Zabu BAF Wave Cable,
Retro Iron Man With Proton Cannon,
Retro Modular War Machine and
Marrow.
It should be noted that the one thing missing from any of those figures or the ones likely yet to come are the
Capcom part of the
Marvel Vs. Capcom. In other words anyone thinking you might see
Capcom based figures with any of this is going to be sorely disappointed. If you want
Capcom based figures that fit in well with
Marvel Legends then we suggest you look at the
Jada Toys Street Fighter line, but don't expect any to come from
Hasbro.
So getting back to yesterday's teases, what exactly can we expect for
Marvel Legends figures from that? Well based on
RUMORS first put out on the internet last August by
Displaying Model Behaviour, we can expect a new
Deluxe Juggernaut figure that will go with the
large blast effect piece they showed. This will allow you to create his running charge move from the game. Now when I say new
Juggernaut, I have no idea if this will be a totally new figure or some kind of re-issue with new accessories. That goes for all these rumored listings.
The
smaller flame accessory Hasbro showed yesterday seems to have just been put out there to give a size comparison for the
bigger blast effect. We don't think it was meant to be a teaser for a new figure.
The
pink accessory should be for a rumored
Psylocke figure that will be part of a
2-pack with Thanos.
Beyond those items, it is "Rumored" you can also expect to see a
2-pack with Wolverine and Silver Samurai and a
Deluxe Gargantos (Shuma-Gorath). That last figure is the most interesting one because it is the first time we will have ever gotten a action figure based on that character.
Note based on what I have seen, the figure is listed as
Gargantos which in the comics is actually a different character from
Shuma-Gorath, but due to legal issues involving the
Shuma-Gorath name, Marvel and likely Hasbro are using the
Gargantos name in place of
Shuma-Gorath. It should also be noted that in the comics Shuma is much bigger than how he appears in the video games which is where I think most people know the character from. The figure while a bigger Deluxe one we imagine will be sized based on his video game appearance and not his comic book one.
Another thing to note here is that these figures don't appear to be listed as video game figures
or likely will have any mention of
Marvel Vs. Capcom on the packaging. These appear to fall under as subline titled
Marvel Legends Anniversary.
Now there does appear to be some additional figure 2-packs coming that will fall under the
Gamerverse banner. Those include
Captain America vs Venom and
War Machine vs Omega Red. I have no idea why some of these seem to fall under the
Gamerverse banner and others don't, but again
I don't really expect any mention of
Marvel Vs. Capcom on these offerings, and definitely don't expect any
Capcom based characters released with these.
From what I have seen these won't be out until the latter half of 2025 and my best guess is these are figures that will be officially revealed by
Hasbro this summer during
SDCC.
Hasbro should have at least one more Online Fanstream event before
SDCC, so I won't say it's impossible they couldn't be revealed during that, but SDCC seems more likely to me. Of course as always, until
Hasbro does officially reveal these figures we will treat all of this as
RUMOR.
I know I'm in the minority, but I hope the Gargantos is at least passing enough with MCU aesthetic. Even if its not as big as in MoM, I'd really like to have a proper antagonist for Wong and Dr Strange

Not that I didn't have faith in what @tarothad told us but I was just genuinely interested in what transpired and did some of my own detective work. It was more a simple fact that someone else had created a character with the same name prior to Marvel using it as inspiration in creating this character and there could possibly be some dispute as to who owned the name but not so mch the character. But still it makes me wonder how they got around the issue when they put it in the game.
No matter. Slap a different name tag on the tentacled one eyed slimy looking freak and make it happen. I'll agree to call the thing my Great Aunt Gertrude I it gets it into the line.
Sounds like what I heard about the Cardiac villain from Spider-Man. Apparently the character isnt totally owned by Marvel, so hasbo doesn't have the rights to make a Legends figure of him ( they would have to pay the creator royalties and they don't want to). If that's true, wild. But I agree- sometimes in sticky situations like that, a new name and a slight tweak might work? Can't hurt to try....

The hell hasbro?!? So every Spider-Man from No Way Home was on a Cardback and I hated it. I had no choice but to accept it but hated it nonetheless. Now, we get a figure that perfectly compliments that wave and you put it in a standard box?!?
Where is the consistency?!?

Wow I guess I was so excited about the reveal I really didn't notice the issue. But now that I see it I actually prefer the black. I'm glad it's accurate but honestly every artist has such a tendency to put their own twist and changes to pretty much any character it really was not that big a deal.
I kinda liked the black more too. The white looks like she's wearing her bathing suit over her tights.. like she couldn't decide what to wear, so she wore everything haha
All well.. I was getting her regardless

Any how, funny thing, I didn't actually expect to see Capcom characters in this sub-line, so I'm more than fine with that. For me, this is really about getting a proper Betsy Psylocke on the new super-posable body mold, and a few I'd not gotten around to getting, like Silver Samurai and Venom, etc. Even though she's seen a number of releases, I'm hoping to see a Rogue in this line, as she's thus far eluded me, lol.
The character was created by Marvel but the name was invented by Robert E. Howard for a Kull the Conqueror story. So the name is technically the property of the company that has rights to Howards IP.

The article notes Marvel does have history working with the current IP holder, so who knows if they worked something out for the Legends figure or just call him Gargantos again.

Ah, I see. Thanks for clarifying that Tarot! Well, hopefully they fix that the way they did with Rom, because I'd be all OVER Marvel Legends Conan figures!

So many well known characters, especially the ladies, get cobbled together from parts, and then totally new sculpts for really obscure/one shot appearance characters. I know Moon Knight isn't top of the top tier, but he's pretty well known. His last figure felt like an afterthought of reused parts. And meanwhile skins that you could do a whole playthrough and never play as, or even unlock get whole new sculpts. The freakin Eternals figures?!?!?!, but Joe Fixit gets jammed together? It just boggles my mind.
On the Eternals vs Joe Fixit, thats just the nature of doing movie and game figures since their designs tend to have far less reuse potential. The Velocity Suit repaint is a prime example of Lets try to squeeze some more budget out of a unique figure we sculpted but cant really recycle otherwise.

That's crazy. I guess it all in how contracts are negotiated And when certain things lapse. Whatever. They got around it with Death's Head, ROM and Chrystar but if all it takes is a simple name swap to get around all the booshee that's all good. We can call it whatever the buns we want once it's on our shelves.
Hasbro outright owns Rom, Marvel outright owns Crystar and Deaths Head, there were no issues to get around with them.
It could be just me but that Hulk head with big teeth and tiny nose reminds me comic book Mask face.
