Re: F4 First Steps figures
LOL. Looks like this guy (or gal) passed on the regular Johnny Storm. Can't really blame them. That's what I would have done. The face sculpt on Sue is actually really nice. Not my cup of tea but honestly they are better than I expected. Still PASS.

I gotta say they kinda look better in hand.
I think one thing I like about the First Steps figures is that despite being MCU? I feel like the costume design in the film and the look of these figures would actually fit in pretty well with other comic figures. I've seen a lot of people really liking that Sue Storm head. Based on Vanessa Kirby I think the likeness is 'kind of' there? But it's still a decent looking head sculpt. I think they nailed Pedro's face. The face printing tech helps obviously and this thing looks solid. I don't have any FF figures yet save for the Dr. Doom from the Cabal 3 pack.

And all the databases are constantly changing. I used to use it quite a bit because I used to draw character sheets and do posters and all that stuff when I was much much younger. I use them less and less because they have started changing everything to match the MCU I think. Specifically I remember Daredevil who is one of my favorite characters was listed at 6'2" and 220 lbs at one time to show that he was a taller more muscular guy than say Spider-Man who was around 5'9" and 150 lbs. And also to have that muscular yet lean physique as compared to the bigger bulkier Captain America who was around 6'4" and 250. And great artists like Sal Buscema and Jr, Sr drew them with a noticeable size differences in characters like that. But now Peter and Matt are virtually identical in size and Cap has been nerfed down to Daredevil's original size. To the T. Even Sam Wilson who was at one time 6'4" has been shrunken to 6'2". But somehow his weight stayed the same. There was a time when Hulk was listed at 9'5' in his savage form and most consistently at least at 9'0" in his most common form. But now I think he's been changed to match his MCU incarnation. Which I'll just leave my opinion on what they've done to poor Hulk in the MCU as of late right here at the door as to not cause a riot. But my fondest and most lasting memory is the encounter between Hulk and Juggernaut in a story in the original The Incredible Hulk comic run before they started constantly doing limited runs and reboots to hide how terrible comics are and how badly they're selling these days and it was drawn by the great Gary Frank where they were both these massive giants and virtually the same size. I think Juggs edged him out maybe by a little bit but not much. And Gary Frank is one of those artists who had great attention for detail. They had rarely crossed paths until then even though it made perfect sense that they should have. I guess they figured Hulk had plenty of other villains to deal with. That's about where I want my display to be. For the most part I think Hasbro gets most of the heavy hitters right as far as size comparisons. Their biggest failures to this point I think would be Abomination, which I think and hope they are about to fix, and Sasquatch who should be taller and large than they Hulk. At one time he was listed at 10' tall while Hulk was 9'. Not a big difference but it should be reflected correctly in the figures but the figure is roughly the same height as Hulk and much slimmer. I just keep them far apart in my display. At least until they correct it. If they correct it. Because the Sasquatch figure is otherwise actually really good. It just needed to be upscaled a bit.Actually I don't think Sasquatch's height has been retconned to this point but they haven't done a cinematic version yet so there's no reason for them to change his size to match anything yet.
Yes I did play all three and they were great. I wished they'd do something similar on the modern platforms. Though I doubt I'd have much time to spend on them anyway. I thought the designs and models for them in that game were great if not perfect and I may be getting them mixed up because its been a loooo-oooong time since I played it but Jugs and Hulk were more or less interchangeable in the game weren't they? I almost seem to remember an in game joke where during they dialogue parts someone actually said "You can take Hulk. We'll take Juggernaut. He's more stable anyway." I may be mis-remembering but it stands out pretty vividly in my mind. Who knows it might have been a completely different game. But yes those were great looking renderings and they were basically the same size. Perfectly scaled IMO.
I get what you're saying. Also made difficult when certain characters share/reuse the same body mold. A good example is the Gamerverse symbiote spidey who seems out of scale with the advanced suit spidey and they are supposed to be the the same iteration of the character.
And yeah, not a fan of the treatment of Hulk in the MCU used as a punching bag for jokes either.
Hulk and Juggs would be a matchup you'd expect given the characters respective strength and size. So again I understand why folks would want them to be a bit more even.
And not sure if that was Ultimate Alliance? Maybe Marvel Heroes? Which has been resurrected by the way! Been a while since I played either. But I always liked Marvel Heroes too.
Important thing about sizing in comic books is how Bad guys are always depicted bigger than the good guys, it's almost like unwritten rule that reflects subconscious David vs. Goliath idea audiences have, so it makes sense that when Hulk is the good guy he usually smaller than the Abomination or Juggernaut, yet when Superheroes are fighting wild evil Hulk he's always gigantic.
From what I've gathered I'd say the stats shake out more like this, Juggernaut 6' 10", Hulk between 6' 6" and 8' depending on his "form". Yes, I've seen the Marvel.com stats that show Juggernaut at over 9 feet, but most sources I've found, outside of that one, show him between the upper end of 6' and 8'. Again looking at this breakdown the two are very close in height, and so that's why I'd prefer to have them be closer in height in figure form. Hence, my opinion of this Juggernaut being too big.

And yes, I'm aware this is based on the game's version, as I'm sure most are. But possibly more to the point, when you're deciding if this better sculpted, better articulated version will work as a comic version, the answer is unfortunately no. Which is why I felt he was too big. The game version always seemed comically large even in the context of the game itself.

Juggernaut is listed as 9'5"So it wouldn't be that "Inaccurate" if he did stand taller than your Hulk. I understand, though, if it's a matter of personal preference. Juggernaut also stands a bit taller than Hulk in MvC.

Heck, he's even taller than Thanos. You could probably put him in a slightly hunched pose to offset the height if you wanted? Both their heights have varied over the years. I expect this may be another Maximum Hulk situation? If you already have the 2-pack Juggernaut? Do you need this one? Probably not? I mean that Juggernaut is still a nice figure. I'd be interested in a new Colossus as I missed that 2-pack and don't have either. I thought about the Select Colossus. But I think I would rather wait and see if he gets a gameverse Juggernaut-style refresh.

I know they are two completely separate lines and there is no "sharing" between the two to prevent leaks or whatever silly excuse they use but you have to think there's some interaction in the engineering department or something. Virtually every character in GIJC has a ball joint. And I know the differences on when it can or can't be used. Literally all Joes wear pants so yes that belt line masks the ball joint pretty well and I know the majority of ML wear skin tight suits so they don't use the ball joint to maintain the traditional look of the character. Which I do appreciate because some of the time when ML does use it it's pretty shoddy as in with the Classic Wasp figure and the X-Men '97 Jean Grey. But things like drop hip pins and calf swivel should just be automatic. Even if there's not a proper boot cut sculpted onto the figure pretty much every character wears some form of boot. Just put a standard cut in it and paint up to the line or cast it in different plastic. And there's always the typical argument of Hasbro owning GI Joe versus leasing Marvel. Believe me I know and I've heard it used as an excuse a thousand times. I see the problem of added cost if they were developing some new technology or technique but all the R&D for these things are already there. Just integrate it. It's crazy. I'm not all in on Joe like I am ML but when I do buy one of those characters I just marvel on how much quality and accessories they put into them. And yes the pun is intended. They even make removable magazines and silencers on their weapons. To me it's just a crazy thought for them to spend all the money to win and retain the Marvel license and then spend the entire lifetime of the contract cutting corners and short changing the product to try to recover costs. I mean the money for the license is already spent. Why not do the best you can with the product to make it a good as possible and sell as many as you can while you have it?
The licensing, I feel, determines how much "stuff" you get with Joe's vs. Legends. Whether it's the accessories or what articulation a figure gets. I get what you are saying, that it's crazy that Joe's kind of gets the whole 9 yards, whereas Legends generally feel like for everything you gain? It's like you lose something else in exchange. If you get an improved waist or drop down, you then don't get a butterfly. Or if you get pinless double elbows, you get pinned double-jointed legs. We saw it with the Gameverse Symbiote Spider-Man. He was released after Maximum Spider-Man, which had everything...but then the Symbiote one has no butterfly.Like you, I don't have many Joe's. I mostly use them for custom fodder. (courtesy of Ollies). But I did pick up Cover Girl (to display with Indy). And when I saw Budo? I kind of had too order him.

Look at this guy. At $35 he is loaded and has more 'stuff' than you get with most "deluxe" Legends. I feel this is mostly explained by licensing. But you are right with regards to articulation? The Legends team themselves have used better articulation in other figures. They just seem to be selective in what figures get it. Even if it were a matter of licensing or whatever, you have to think it wouldn't cost them that much to incorporate something they've already used in other figures. To go back to licensing? I think it's more evident when you see what Black Series gets versus even Legends. You are lucky to even get a blaster. I remember reading an article that suggested the Star Wars toy license was one of the most expensive in terms of guarantees and royalties.

Then they can finally share their technique with the GI Joe and their minimal ball joint range.
