Despite the first Wolverine movie being set up as a prequel containing events in Logan's life before he joined the X-Men in the first Bryan Singer directed X-Men film,
Empire is now reporting that the events in the next Wolverine movie which is simply titled "The Wolverine" will take place after the 3rd X-Men movie, "X-Men: Last Stand." Empire has conducted an interview with The Wolverine's director James Mangold who says,
"Where this film sits in the universe of the films is after them all," reveals Mangold. "Jean Grey is gone, most of the X-Men are disbanded or gone, so there’s a tremendous sense of isolation for him."
Empire claims to have more juicy tid-bits about the upcoming movie but we will have to wait for the print edition of the magazine to hit stands to find out what they are.
The Wolverine is currently filming and will star Hugh Jackman as the feral, clawed X-Men. The movie is to open in theaters on July 26, 2013.
