After the
news ran that the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot from 20th Century Fox would not be based on any comic book cannon,
EW reached out to actress Kate Mara who gave the reported quote to Esquire Latinoamerica that started a huge uproar with fans. Initially she was quoted as saying:
"I've never been a fan of comics, I've never actually read one. I was going to for this movie but the director said it wasn't necessary. Well, actually he told us that we shouldn't do it because the plot won't be based on any history of anything already published. So I chose to follow his instructions. The one fact is I am a fan of comic book movies, so it's very exciting to be part of a movie like this."
And now according to EW, what she really said was this:
"The film is not based on one comic, but rather drawn from the entire canon."
So we went from the actress being told she needn't bother reading any of the Fantastic Four comics because the story for this new movie had no basis from comic book canon, to the story for this movie will be based on the "ENTIRE" canon. WOW! That must mean Ms. Mara has a lot of reading to do then, right?
The new Fantastic Four movie is slated to open in theaters on June 19, 2015.
