If you are a fan of the comics and wondering why the Power Infinity Stone which has traditionally been red, turns up in Guardians of the Galaxy movie purple, Director James Gunn has a simple explanation for you. Posted on his Facebook page he says the following:

"The power stone is purple because the aether already took red. And it's a better color for GotG."
