Sony Moves Forward With Spider-Women Film

by Outsiders
November 27, 2018
Sony is moving forward with plans for a animated Spider-Women film that will focus on three generations of women with Spidey powers. Deadline suggests this is being done by Sony as an attempt to jump on the #MeToo bandwagon.

The script is being written by Bek Smith and is being directed by Joaquim Dos Santos. Amy Pascal will produce, and it’s likely that Avi Arad and Phil Lord & Christopher Miller will also be involved as will Christina Steinberg.

Nothing confirmed but one of the characters in this Spider-Women film could be Spider-Gwen, a breakout character from the Spider-Verse.

The studio is also already moving forward on a Spider-Verse sequel that will continue Miles Morales’ story.

#Metoo doesn't necessarily apply to women--- Terry Crewes famously shared his story in relation to it.

The original piece made a bizarre connection when they really just meant to say "in the interest of diversity" they're doing a female led Spider-world movie.

Not familiar with any of the Spider-Women outside of Spider-Gwen, but out of the Spider-people, I thought it was just Peter that had been sexually abused . But I think #MeToo only applies to women, so while Peter couldn't have been part of that specific movement, his Earth-1610 Spider-Woman clone would technically qualify.. right?

Nice correction, Outsiders! Sorry for being sensitiveabout it - I realize you were reporting what someone else reported.

You might want to brush up on current events... Me Too is in reference to abuse ...how is this that? You are way off with that headline.

Outsiders didn't make the news, simply reported on it. The source which was Deadline was the one to make the connection. with Metoo. And while the Metoo movement originated from women standing up to sexual assault, I think some view it as something that has grown beyond just that and has become about woman standing up for themselves in all things.

Never-the-less I agree that the original authors view might be confusing and have edited the article on our end due to that.

In the OP's defense, that was the comparison the article linked made.

...Which is still dumb, since there's literally nothing in it indicating the movie is inspired by #MeToo. Unless the plot involves Spider-Woman fighting powerful abusers or something, but even then Deadline notes no script is in place.

I am just gonna say this: If the story is not good enough, it will be a flop.
