Tom Says No Tobey Or Andrew For Spider-Man 3

Despite the constant rumors, lead actor Tom Holland in an interview with Esquire.com says that his Spider-Man predecessors Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield will not be appearing in Spider-Man 3 from Sony.

“No, no, they will not be appearing in this film,” he says firmly. “Unless they have hidden the most massive piece of information from me, which I think is too big of a secret for them to keep from me. But as of yet, no. It’ll be a continuation of the Spider-Man movies that we’ve been making.”

Of course over the years Tom has developed a bit of a reputation of revealing spoilers of movies he is in, so it's not entirely possible they are keeping things from him. earlier in the interview he half joked that he's already 8 weeks in of shooting the movie and he still doesn't know what its about.

The movie is likely going to be dealing with a "Multiverse" type storyline that likely will have started in the currently running WandaVision series on Disney+ and will also play a role in the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel titled Into The Multiverse of Maddness. It's already been confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be reprising his role as Doctor Strange in the upcoming Spider-Man movie.

Other actors said to be in the movie include Alfred Molina who played Doc Ock in the second Maquire Spider-Man movie and Jamie Foxx who played Electro in the Andrew Garfield “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”. There have even been rumors that Charlie Cox who played Matt Murdock/Daredevil in the now defunct Netflix Daredevil will be making an appearance.

Of course how significant a role any of these characters will have in the movie and overall story remains to be seen.

Right now the untitled Spider-Man 3 movie is slated with a December 17, 2021 release date.

So utterly pointless. The whole thing is really putting me off from the Spider-Man movies altogether. Its gonna just end up ruining things till the franchise implodes again, another actor comes in, another Spider-Man franchise....the upside there will be a "back to basics" formula, tossing out the silliness of Peter Parker having to be "mentored" by Stark, bringing in a supporting cast that reflects what the books had, etc. Really its starting to get a little wash/rinse/repeat and I'm not entertained by this...

Man, I'm glad to hear this and really hope it's the case. They need to concentrate on paying off that post-credits scene from Homecoming. Get the Sinister Six together. You're not going to beat Into the Spider-Verse at its own game in live action.

Exactly, if they want to use any previous Spidey, do it in Into the Spider-verse 2. there's no need for a live-action version

And so it begins, the ugly side of the "Multiverse" story-line. Soon EVERY franchise is gonna have to put up with "Such-and-Such from an Earlier Version of the Franchise is Going to Appear!" rumors.

Hey remember when Tatiana Maslany said those rumors she'd been cast as She-Hulk were all lies and she didn't even know what that was?

This. This exactly.

I'm more than ok with this. I love the previous movies, but I don't need them to come back into the MCU. I'm happy with how things are going and I mean, it would be a cool concept, but with the MCU as big as it is right now, I don't think it needs to expand THAT much into the multiverse.

I agree 100%. People have been clamoring for Tobey, Andrew, even Miles to join this movie, but that really feels like it would take away from the evolution of Hollands character. Im all for Miles joining later down the line, but for now I just want to see Toms Peter being Spidey in a normal Spidey movie. Its too early for stuff like that.

Hopefully Tom is telling the truth and we wouldn't be seeing Into the Live-Action Spider-verse

See, Im torn. On the one hand that seems like a big thing for him to not know about, but on the other hand, if they are in it they would have undoubtedly not told him cause spoiler reasons lol. My guess is they are in it, but not more than a cameo. Pretty sure theyve already said that Molina and Foxx wont be in it for long either.
