Marvel Legends "Hit Monkey" Red She-Hulk

Marvel Legends "Hit Monkey" Red She-Hulk

Jay Cochran - February 19, 2013

Hasbro’s Marvel Legends kick things off in 2013 with the new “Hit Monkey” wave, and with this wave we get a number of new character and figure sculpts. For our first review of this wave, we will look at the new Red She-Hulk figure which incorporates Hasbro’s new female body mold. Does it stack up with previous Marvel Legend offerings and is it worth adding to you collection? Read on and find out.

Check out hi-res images for this figure in our GALLERY below.

Packaging - Hasbro is incorporating a pretty standard design with all of their Marvel Legends figures these days. On the front in the top left corner you have artwork of the character by artist Clayton Crain. For this particular figure you will find that both Red She-Hulk and Lyra are featured. This is because Lyra will be the running change figure and replace She-Hulk in later case shipments. In the top right corner you have the Marvel Universe logo along with this wave’s theme which is the “Hit Monkey” series. The figure is clearly displayed below, and the card also features some art of other figures available in the wave, in this case X-Force Wolverine, Ultimate Captain America and Sentry.

The back features more character art by Crain as well as images of the figures in this wave you will need to complete your Hit Monkey Build-A-Figure:Hyperion, Iron Fist and Red She-Hulk. There is also a little blurb that says “These Mighty Maidens are gamma-fueled powerhouses, with enough strength to punch a mountain to pieces!”

Sculpt - The Red She-Hulk sculpt is probably the best figure Hasbro has done to date for a 6” female body. The muscle tone is near perfect making the figure look like she has some real guns while still managing to capture that feminine feel. The head sculpt is really good here as well. Some of Hasbro’s past female offerings haven’t looked so great but with this one they really managed to capture the look and feel of Betty as the She-Hulk. The hair is sculpted on using a hard plastic material which looks good but does restrict the head movement some. She has one hand sculpted open to hold her sword, and the other hand is sculpted in a closed fist position.

Paint - The majority of the body uses a shiny red glossy paint which really makes it stand out. For her suit, they used a glossy black and a metallic purple. The hair, gloves and boots also use black while the hair features a red stripe on the sides. She has all white eyes and black lipstick on. There is nothing terribly fancy with the paint apps here but they gel together well giving you a nice looking figure. I didn’t notice any paint errors or bleeding of any kind with my figure, so overall I would say they did a solid job with this one.

Articulation - Red She-Hulk incorporates swivel-hinged shoulders, peg-single hinged elbows, swivel wrists with peg-hinged hands, mid-torso ball joint, swivel-hinged hip joints, double-hinged knees, and ankle rocker joints. As I mentioned before, the head movement is restricted due to the long hair. She also has some restricted movement in the legs with how the lower body is constructed. Moving her legs out to the sides or trying to get her in a splits position is hampered by this. An Ab crunch joint might have been nice as well.

Accessories - The figure comes with a big sword, which honestly I don’t really remember She-Hulk using in the comics. She also comes with a Hit Monkey Build-A-Figure piece, specifically the legs and torso. We will go into more detail about Hit Monkey when we review that figure as a whole.

Overall - Some of the movement restrictions in the lower body are a little disappointing but overall Hasbro has managed to give us a very cool looking female figure with this one. She is a little shorter than Hasbro’s Green She-Hulk which I think is comic book accurate. She stands about 7” tall making her the tallest figure in this wave, not including Lyra who I assume will be the same height. I was really looking forward to this figure when it was first announced and feel Hasbro has done a good job improving upon their female figures with this one. If you are a Marvel Legends collector or just like the Hulk character, I would say you will definitely want to get this one for your collection.
