TNI Reader Review: 12" Aragorn From Sideshow Toy

Clothes: The clothing is terrific, the quality is excellent, sideshow has perfect and mastered the art of cloth outfits, as most of their figures are typically made entirely from cloth. The pleather coat is beautifully constructed, even with paint brushes of dried up mud on the bottom. The pleather is really nice, it adds a degree of realism to the figure rather than just being regular frabric.

Articulation: Sideshow still needs to work on perfecting their standard body, the figure is capable of holding various poses, but they do not look as natural as medicom human bodies.

Accesories: Aragorn has alot of accessories. The exclusive version of Aragorn came with his black cloak and a pipe, which should have been included with the standard Aragorn because that black cloak is part of Aragorn as Strider the Ranger.Nonetheless The regular Aragorn comes with his sleeping bad, a extra right hand (open and closed), a knife, his sword and sheath, belt, bow and arrows and a bow holder. All of which are highly detailed. You can even take the string apart from the bow, its almost as if you are handling a real bow and arrow.

Head Mold: The likeness doesnt really look like Viggo, the eyes just don't seem on par with Viggo himself. Besides the eyes, the mouth also appears two wide, but those eyes just seem a bit off. The prototype head mold looked a lot better than the final product. I mean, there is some resemblance there, but not very obvious. If I never saw the LOTR movie, I would not recognize the the head mold. But because I have seen the movies, I do see some resemblance.

The Good: The costuming is screen accurate, the material is very durable and looks natural. The accesories are great, just about everything Aragorn needs. The figure has a strong presence in any room.

The Bad: The regular version of Aragorn (which I got) should have came with the black coat. It is almost a necessity for this figure, its something that is part of the character, but for some reason Sideshow did not include the cloak for the regular edition. The head mold could've been more screen accurate to Viggo's face, but to any LOTR fan, its close enough. Trying to capture a actor's likeness in a sculpt is very difficult, so I cannot diss the sculpt, its excellent, but it could have been better. The boots, I wish sideshow would make bendable boots like medicom, that way if I posed Aragorn running, his feet would look natural on the ground, but because of the hard stiff plastic books, that cannot be achieved.

Overall I give this figure 3.5 stars out of 5. $64.99 is a good price(though some stores are selling Aragorn for cheaper than that). Especially with all the material the figure comes with, and its not cheap stuff either, the figure and clothing is durable. If your a LOTR fan, I def recommend picking this one up, if your not then don't waste your money. Well, as good as this figure was, lets hope the next few LOTR figures from sideshow are even better.
