Hasbro’s Q&A with the Marvel brand team members returns this month with a new batch of questions and answers. If you would like to submit a question for Hasbro to answer about their Marvel Line, head over to our
FORUMS and post it for possible use in a future Q&A session.
Marvelous News: Ok let’s start with the big one on that seems to be on everyone's mind. Will 6" Marvel Legends continue into 2009? If so can give us any hints as to what we might see for 6" past what was shown at Comic-Con?
Hasbro: The short answer is yes, they will be continuing. We're looking at a few options for the continuation of 6" Legends in 2009, but we can't give away the details or information on character selection yet.
MN: With all the new Marvel animated series coming out soon like Iron Man, X-Men and Black Panther, will there be any new toy lines based on these series like there is with the Spectacular Spider-Man animated series?
Hasbro: While we can't answer your question too specifically, we can say this: With so much awesome animation in the pipeline, it sounds like a pretty good idea!
MN: You teased an “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” movie line at Comic-Con this summer. Are there any more details you can give about that line yet? Will it be 6", 3 3/4" or both?
Hasbro: Unfortunately, we can't reveal any more specific details on the 2009 Wolverine line just yet.
MN: Marvel Studios seems to be focusing on this concept of crossovers with their Avengers, Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man movies. Will we see these crossovers carry over into your toy lines based on those movies?
Hasbro: It's exciting to see these characters crossing over on film much like they do in comic pages. Every character in the films is on the table from a toy perspective, so if crossovers exist on screen it's a definite possibility.
MN: How is the 3 3/4" Marvel line coming along? Has there been any kind of updates, changes or additions made since Comic-Con that you can talk about?
Hasbro: The line is coming along great - we're finalizing the 4th wave of single carded figures right now and we're hard at work on the 5th wave for 2009. We're continuing to partner closely with Marvel Publishing to make sure that there is a tight relationship between comic and toy. We're also in the middle of nailing down the full year 2010 lineup, which is always exciting. The fan reaction has been tremendous for this new line and we're looking at all sorts of exciting new possibilities and ideas!
I said it before and I'll say it again - waste of asking. I know they can't reveal everything up to the end of 2009 and whatnot but thrwo usa lil sneaky peak. We knew about Spiral nearly a year before she was shown and we all got stoked off it (well I know plenty who were). I'll wait until the video podcast things return. They were much better :)
Wow, that was a worthless Q&A.

They still owe us a right sized ML scaled Iron Monger and a Mk III Iron Man that is more bulked up than C3PO !!
No, they don't "owe us" anything. You pay your money, you get an action figure you presumably wanted. No further obligation on either side.
If only they pimped Marvel Legends to retailers as hard as they're pimping Puniverse to the people who care about the 6" line. Maybe then there would be some worthwhile news for Legends fans.
The difference being that the retailers have already seen the Marvel Legends pegwarm and then get clearanced out. No amount of "pimping" is going to change that. "No really, this time they'll sell to more than just the smaller-than-they-think-they-are collector market!" At this point, the options for Hasbro and Marvel are likely pretty much as follows.
Retailers have also see them move off the shelves so fast they might as well not have unpacked them, and that's why they are still there. Every products has cycles and no retailer or Hasbro is foolish enough to think a few peg warmers means they gotta move on.
Plus pimping them would be nice. Anyone seen a commercial for legends? I see freakin Joe and SW commercials all the time. Wanna get rid of peg warmers, create some hype. Heck they didn't even really hit the Iron Man figs, just mainly the CosPlay type stuff.
Either way, they didn't answer the (Or ask) the big question "Did Hasbro generate this price increase or is it the retailers.
GEEK
Actually yes, retailers are "that foolish." Or that smart, depending on whether you have any business sense at all. Lines have cycles, and sometimes lines END. It happens. The Kenner Star Wars figures made billions of dollars in sales...then they ended. Same with G.I. Joe in the 80's. They eventually came back, sure. Marvel Legends will likely be the same way.
Now we exist in a world where the toy aisles are smaller (and there's less of them), and every product is competing for space. Retailers can't afford to waste space and money on lines that aren't selling, and can't afford to keep them around based on what "might" happen. They're not going to make themselves potentially lose money just so a (relatively) small group of hardcore collectors will be appeased. They have to make space for upcoming products that while they may be unproven, at least have the chance to sell better than the Marvel Legends have for the last two-three years. Or even to expand the space available for lines that are still selling well.
It's called "making money." It's the fundamental purpose of running a business, which both Hasbro and the retailers are. Oh, and by the way, advertising costs money, too...if the line isn't making money, then the money's not likely to be there to advertise.
And for the second time today: The Red Hulk, Ares, and Nemesis waves are EXCLUSIVES. EXCLUSIVES NEARLY ALWAYS HAVE A MARKUP IN PRICE. There is no "Marvel Legends Line" right now. There's purely retailer-exclusive figures. Two different animals.

A: Try something new in a different scale. In this case a proven scale that Hasbro's traditionally had good success with.
or
B: Stop making Marvel action figures altogether, except for the occasional movie tie-in.
I know some folks don't want to accept reality, and seem to think that everyone in the world would love 6" Marvel Legends as much as we do if someone would just make them understand how awesome they are...meanwhile in the real world, Hasbro is doing what they feel they have to do to keep the Marvel brand active and on-shelves in the toy industry.
Besides, Hasbro never abandons lines completely. Even if single-card 6" figures go away, they'll be back someday. Maybe in a year, maybe two, maybe five, but they'll be back. Likely with a big splashy relaunch where they act like there's never been 6" Marvel figures before.
If only they pimped Marvel Legends to retailers as hard as they're pimping Puniverse to the people who care about the 6" line. Maybe then there would be some worthwhile news for Legends fans.
Another wasted Q & A-lite.

Whats the point of this Q&A ? when they didnt A any Q
Wow, when it came to Legends six inch and movie six inch they beat around the bush but with the 3 3/4 line, they said they have five waves slated for 2009. Are you kidding me? 6 inch Legends collectors are getting the shaft and everyone knows it now. But I am just happy Red Hulk came out before 6 inch Legends got put on the back burner.
They answered the only question I care to know about: 3-3/4?
I hope they decide to spare us any stupid pack-in games and just give us the figures.
The same way they do for Joes & SW,to make the carded figure more appealing to the collector.I'll rip em all out anyway though.Depending on what the packaging looks like,I might get a few extras to keep in.
