Shakespearean actor KENNETH BRANAGH has stepped down as director of upcoming West End play HAMLET to take on the big-screen adaptation of Marvel comic THOR.
The English star, who helmed and starred in the 1996 version of Shakespeare's Hamlet, was due to direct Jude Law in a Donmar Warehouse production of the tragedy at London's Wyndham's Theatre. But he's had to withdraw from the project after reaching the final stages of negotiations with Marvel bosses over the Thor movie, due for release in 2010.
Branagh will be replaced by Michael Grandage, the artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse, which is currently in the middle of its year-long residency at the Wyndham's Theatre. Grandage says, "We have arrived at this arrangement very amicably." And Law is also in support of the production change. He adds, "I feel privileged to be part of the Donmar West End season and to be directed by the company's artistic director Michael Grandage. "It was Ken who brought me to this project. With his support and guidance, as one of the greatest Hamlets of all time, and with Michael directing, I can't imagine a better scenario for me, as an actor, to undertake the role."
Hamlet is due to begin previews at the end of May (09).

Ben Affleck was good in Paycheck, and HORRIBLE in Daredevil.
Triple H may be big and built, but he is no real "actor". He wasn't even that good in Blade 3 (which was terrible all around and only got worse with Ryan Reynolds talking). Even so, as long as the leading man can speak proper English and fit the role, I am good. The question is: What type of Thor are we looking for?
If you all want Ultimates Thor, then yeah MAYBE Triple H can fill that role.
If you want a classic 616 version, then we may have problems. Remember the Hulk/Thor tv movie? Great for a guest but would have horrible as a series.
Thor has to be carried as realistic, with a slight accent (he is Norwegian/ Germanic), big but not too over the top. I know this is going to be a fantasy film but making myths into reality can be tricky, and unfortunately for Branagh that means finding the proper lead role.
triple h can act. david goyer cant do a movie because he is a writer and thats why blade 3 was a pure dissaster. triple h did what he had to do in blade 3. david goyer hasnt put tripleh potential in the movie. every commercial triple h does looks amazing. compare those to blade 3. even wesley snipes was shitty in that movie. triple h will be a perfect thor for my opinion or do you guys prefer ben affleck?
based on the article, Branagh is DIRECTING, not STARRING in (Gosh I hope not the lead)Not a big fan of Triple H as Thor
chose somebody else please!!!!
Someone who can act, preferably.

Cant wait thor is one of my favs.
You have got to be kidding me! This guy is almost 50 yrs old & nowhere in the world near the physical stature that the MU Thor is! He's barely taller than the woman he is pictured with!
Thor's 6'6 & built like a bodybuilder!
Sorry, if the only reason they picked him is for his acting chops & screw the fact that he physically looks nothing like Thor, then this movie is gonna blow!
I expected them to go for an actor in his mid-late 30s & at least 6'4 & in shape, this guy is neither!
He can pull off this movie. I am confident in the Thor film now.
i hope that this dude watch some wrestling and gets triple h to do it.
