6" Marvel Legends Are Not Dead

6" Marvel Legends Are Not Dead

Jay Cochran - January 30, 2009
Marvel's own Jesse Falcon who is the Director of Merchendising at Marvel Entertainment and used to be in charge of The Marvel Legends line when it was under the old Toy Biz banner dropped by the forums of Fwoosh with the following news.

Hey Guys it's Jesse

Long time no chat right! I've been reading a lot of gloom and doom about the 6" Legends line. Well, I wanted to come on the Fwoosh and let you guys know that next weekend your going to see something I think is amazingly cool that will be happening with the 6" Marvel Legends line. And I really wanted to come here and let you know that the 6" line is alive and Hasbro has a very dedicated team that plans on making some very cool 6" product over the next couple of years.

I also wanted to let you know that the 3.75" line look's amazing! If when you get them in hand you agree an I think you will you should thank the entire Hasbro crew because they all worked very hard on this line to make it what it is.

So when you get a second if you come to NYCC swing by the Marvel booth, and say hi!

I think your really going to like what you see!

Best,

Jesse

Be sure to check back next weekend to Marvelous News for complete coverage of the New York Comic Con to see what exactly Hasbro will have on hand.

Oookay. So far the "really cool" news is the "big reveal" that the ML two-packs, otherwise known as the only 6" Marvel Legends in wide release, will now be TRU exclusives.

I sincerily hope that's not the surprise Falcon mentioned.

Look around at some other posts.

Falcon came back and said he meant SDCC, not NYCC. So you'll have to wait until...July(?) for his "big news."

By then, maybe the "big news" will be that MLs are actually available in more than one store again. Seriously, what is with everything being exclusive now?

That's hasbro not knowing how to do smart bussiness.

Why did we have to hear this from Jesse Falcon instead of someone from Hasbros end? Does Hasbro not have a computer? Are the people in toy research not checking messege boards? If you hear your toyline is sinking and it isn't,wouldn't the smart thing to do be to get out there and tell people what's goin on?

Doesn't Jesse Falcon work with Hasbro now?

Yes, he is the Director of Merchendising at Marvel Entertainment. Basically he is the guy Hasbro gets approval from to make something Marvel releated. Marvel as the licensing holder gets final say on everything before it goes into production.

This was the same issue before SDCC there is this build up of "Marvel Legends dieing" "Hasbro Sucks" posts the closer we get to a comicon, but at the SDCC Hasbro did pull through with a lot of product that we did get little by little throughout the fall and the first half of winter. Hasbro will deliver at the New York Comicon, that is based upon last years experience with Hasbro. So it's a little dry in the figure department right now for Marvel Legends but we just came off an onslaught of figures from Spidey Classics, Red Hulk wave, Ares Wave, Iron Man waves, and the two packs. We should just prepare ourselves for another crammed up wave of toys in spring and early summer then probably another dry spell. This seems to be the Hasbro cycle. One last thing about Hasbro I have to give it to them for re-issuing McFarlane Spidey and Kang two of the most popular figs for Marvel collectors. I think Hasbro is putting into account the collector, we just seem to be real pesimistic about the Hasbro making Marvel Legends. That seems to be the attitude many collectors have taken after Hasbro took over, they are never going to be good enough for many becuase they are not Tiy Biz. Hey as Secret Invasion said, "Embrace Change".

Just to throw in my two cents here. How long did ToyBiz hold the property for Marvel Legends. I bet Hasbro chunked down a whole lot of money for the rights to this brand, so it doesn't make sense to me to pay a bunch of money for a franchise and then let it just wither on the vine.

I will continue to remain cautiously optimistic... but given how my Wal-Mart doesn't even want to carry Marvel Legends anymore, it could be all for moot... Whatever this plan entails, I hope it means getting more shelf space at my local store.

Given how many times Hasbro has reminded folks that an "online only" line doesn't meet their business models, I doubt that'll be the end result.

Or else we'd actually be able to get the Indiana Jones Temple of Doom and 2nd Raiders of the Lost Ark waves. People were begging for those to be offered online and Hasbro steadfastly refused.

But yeah, I hear you, Mako (and heh @ the cartoon website comment). Still, as someone said above, it's not like Hasbro has to comment at all if they don't want to. The fact that Jesse Falcon himself wrote a special message about the line's future shows that Hasbro IS reading our concerns, and that they're actually trying to do some rumor-control.

Ultimately, if MLs were indeed being phased out, it would be silly to have their personnel making public statements to the contrary. I mean, when they were letting the Indy line die out, they didn't beat around the bush and weren't cutesy about it...just check out the old Indy Q&As, where you can see the growing finality with each passing month.

We can certainly reserve the right to be disappointed with whatever the big "announcement" is, but I just don't see this as some kind of trick or typical corporate happy-speak.

Even Jesse Falcon's reassurance is being met with pessimism and disbelief from some quarters. Some people honestly just seem to be wanting Marvel Legends to be dead just so all their conspiracy theories and Hasbro-bashing will be validated.

Well-said. I really thought hearing a reassurance from Jesse Falcon himself would cause ML fans to rejoice, or at least take comfort. After all, MLs were (and I guess still are) his baby. Instead, his message is being met as some kind of cynical ploy or something. I'm not saying people need to be all lovey-dovey with Hasbro all of the sudden, but geez...
