Where Are The X-Men: First Class Toys?!?!

X-Men: First Class opens in theaters today from 20th Century Fox. The story tells the movie origins of Professor Xavier and Magneto along with the first group of students to dawn the X-Men uniforms. If you caught our movie review yesterday, then you know we thought it was a really good movie on par with the first two X-Men movies. So this got us thinking, where are the toys for what could possibly be one of the best comic-based movies of the summer with lots of cool varied characters?

Well truth is there are a few offerings out there all of which are being sold at Toys R' Us stores, and so we thought we give you a recap of them today.

Diamond Select Toys seems to have the most to offer right now with their Minimates line. They will be offering an assortment of 2-packs that feature actual characters from the movie.

- Emma Frost with Havok
- Xavier with ShawBeast with Azazel
- Magneto with Mystique

Believe it or not these are the only figures of the actual movie characters that have been done in plastic form up to this point. DST has also released a boxset featuring characters from the "First Class" comic book series. This set includes Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman and Angel in their redesigned training outfits and is available at comic book and specialty stores.

Hasbro has also released a number of "X-Men: First Class" themed products exclusive to Toys R' Us stores. None of these are actually based on characters in the movies, but instead all focus on X-Men comic book characters.

They have a new boxset of 3.75" figures which feature X-Men characters from the classic Giant-Sized X-Men #1 comic book. This set features classic comic book versions of Nightcrawler, Storm, Wolverine, Colossus, Cyclops and Warpath. There is also a variant of this set which feature a partly transparent Nightcrawler and a Classic Storm with some added paint apps.

Along with that, Hasbro has also released two comic 2-packs featuring 3.75" figures of Cyclops and Jean Grey from the "First Class" comic book in their training outfits as well a 2-pack with Wolverine and Sabretooth from the "Wolverine: First Class" comic book. Both these sets come with reprinted comic books of said titles.

Finally there is a role-play Wolverine claw for the young ones. This is a re-painted version from Hasbro's X-Men Origins: Wolverine line that has been re-released in new "First Class" packaging.

It seems like companies have dropped the ball on this one, but If this movie does as well as I think it will do at the box office, I would not be surprised to see companies scramble to get more actual "X-Men: First Class" movie product out there for consumption. Already the Hong Kong based company Hot Toys recently announced that they would be doing some high-end 1/6 scale figures based on the movie, and hopefully there will be more to come.
