Hasbro releases another fairly obscure character from the Marvel Universe in their fourth series of Marvel Legends with the Protector figure. Is this another winner or a figure worth passing on? Read on to find out.

This figure incorporates the same standard packaging Hasbro has been using for all their Marvel Legends figures since last year. The top and back features comic art of both Protector and the running change variant Iron Fist figure which have been dubbed the “Warriors of the Mind” for this wave. The art is done by comic book artist Clayton Crain. The figure is clearly displayed on the front of the card so you can get a good look at it before purchasing. The front also features some art for other figures being released in the wave, but you can’t really see that until you open the figure and remove it from the packaging.
The back, along with the before mentioned comic art of the characters, shows the other figures you need to get in this wave to complete your Hit Monkey Build-A-Figure.
This figure is similar to the series 2 Fantomex sculpt which works pretty well except in one area, the hands. The hands are sculpted in an open position, supposedly so it can hold the two pistols accompanying it. The figure does hold the weapons but in such an awkward position that it really looks bad in most poses, especially the left hand. Now this might not be so bad if it wasn’t that this guy’s main power is the guns. Other than the hands, the rest of the sculpt looks good and true to character. The red discs on his chest and wrists are sculpted on, and the head has some good detailing. Still, it’s hard to get past the hands.
The paint is simple but decent, incorporating mostly white and black paint with some skin tone on the face, silver on the eyes and red on the discs located on the chest, belt and wrists. I could find no noticeable errors on my figure.
The figure has a hinged/ball-joint neck giving it a good range of movement left, right, up and down. Like with Fantomex, this figure has swivel-hinged shoulders, swivel biceps, double-hinged elbows, swivel wrists with peg-hinged hands, swivel waist, peg-swivel-hinged hips, ab crunch, swivel thighs, double-hinged knees and ankle rockers. This figure also has an added outer chest swivel joint that holds the arms and give them extra movement in the shoulder area.
He comes with two pistols. These are the same pistols seen with Fantomex, only painted black. They look okay but not really futuristic enough to be the weapons of a Kree warrior. He also comes with the head and two machine guns for the Hit Monkey Build-A-Figure which we will go into more detail about in a review for that figure.
If you are a fan of Protector or just want to complete your Hit Monkey figure then pick this one up. Otherwise, I recommend passing on this one. I don’t actually have Fantomex but how the hands on this figure look when holding the guns just totally ruin this figure for me.
